This is how the dominoes fall when you pay these mega contracts to QBs. Allen has a $47m cap hit next year and when you have nearly 10% of you cap tied up in one player the money gets much thinner across the other 50 odd players. Makes it difficult to retain top talent in other areas.
Same thing will happen to Ravens, Bengals, Chargers and Chiefs in the next few years. Roster imbalance will ultimately affect their ability to compete for championships. The only real way around it is to keep replenishing with quality players on rookie deals. That in turn puts pressure on consistently drafting the right players. A difficult feat in itself as it's hit and miss for even the best scouting teams. Beyond that you need to Moneyball the rest of your roster. That can keep you competitive but not necessarily a Super Bowl contender.
