Maybe it's because they haven't decided if he is going to play guard or tackle, the money would be different.
The money is no different. This is probably just an anomaly, I even doubt that offset language is holding it up. It might be a matter of guaranteed money more than anything or it may have been a simple he had some other issue. Nothing to see here. He will be signed.
I mean we are not talking a lot of money or risk here financially if we end up cutting a third round pick early. It sucks to waste a pick but offset language really doesn't help a team very much since they can always sign a minimum contract guy and that's about the money we are speaking of under the cap.
There may be more to it but its probably just a coincidence.
Similar draft pick from last year had this contract 5/9/2013: Signed a four-year, $3.075 million contract. The deal included a $697,000 signing bonus. 2014: $515,000, 2015: $650,000, 2016: $733,000, 2017: Free Agent.
So the only year offset language would help at all is if we cut him basically year one, after that its about the value of a minimum contract that we would owe.
The only argument that could be coming from their camp is possibly guaranteed money and in reality there is no precendent or reason for him to get any more than about 700,000 or so guaranteed.
Last year this was Dallas Thomas's contract.
6/14/2013: Signed a four-year, $2.846 million contract. The deal included a $606,376 signing bonus. 2014: $520,000, 2015: $610,000, 2016: $705,000, 2017: Free Agent
