Blake Brockmeyer

Naoele isn't a very good player, huge bust for a #10 overall draft pick. NO line was one of the most overrated lines over the past few years. Brooks was getting killed and they opened zero holes for RW. I'd rather have Perry for his cap number than Naoele at his current cap number any day.

Brockermeyer is a decent player, but never played with RW at Texas. He is 29 and has an injury history. Solid player, but not somebody you pay big bucks too(thus his release).

Brockermeyer would be our starter if he came in for a lot less $$ than he will probobly be looking for. The only thing is, he proboly couldn't stay healthy for 16+ games.
thanks Bodzilla29, if there is 1 thing we do not need on the OL it is another oft-injured or just coming back from major injuries guy since that is already about 1/2 the OL on our team. We also have several young, no-names like Adam Vincent, Ant Cesario and Cornell Green who may turn out to be OK, like Andrews was last year. If we are going to try to bring in a FA at OL, we need someone markably better than what we've got who is on the young side and healthy.

Guess we were right in the first place:

Dolphins | May Pursue Brockermeyer - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)

Looking for tackle

The Dolphins have interest in signing left tackle Blake Brockermeyer, who was released Friday by Chicago to clear $3 million in salary-cap room. The Bears hope to re-sign Brockermeyer, who has started 100 games since being selected by Carolina in the first round of the 1995 draft, but he might receive a better offer elsewhere.

Brockermeyer, 28, is recovering from offseason shoulder and knee surgeries and isn’t expected to be able to practice until August. Brent Smith and Marcus Spriggs, both of whom are recovering from season-ending knee injuries, are expected to compete to start at left tackle for the Dolphins.

not sure why we are interested in a guy who is "isn’t expected to be able to practice until August. "

Key points from the Chicago Bears website:

Brockermeyer started all 16 games in 2001 but is rebounding from offseason surgery on his right shoulder and left knee that could limit him into training camp.

Brockermeyer played in 47 of 49 games with 46 starts in three seasons with the Bears after joining the club as an unrestricted free agent from Carolina. He missed one contest in 1999 with a migraine and two in 2000 after developing cellulitis of his upper right arm.

The Bears are confident Brockermeyer will rebound from his current injuries, but his recovery ultimately won't be measured until full-contact drills in training camp.

This doesn't sound like an injury prone guy to me.

To hell with continuity................Let`s rotate Smith, Spriggs and Brockermeyer at LT and call them the "gimp squad". :D

I believe we are waiting on Gardener to sign that newly renegotiated contract that will shave off 2 million against the cap and guarentee his money this year with a bit of a signing bonus that a portion will go to an insurance policy.

Then Wanny will go hard on Blake cause this would absolutely solve our LT problem.

we may not get him

Good---- the Donkeys can have him !!!!!   Marino1983

As for myself I have like Brockermeyer quite a bit since his college days at Texas. One of the biggest draft day blunders made was picking Billy Milner instead of Brockemeyer with the 1st round pick in 1995. Brockemeyer was a major reason for Carolina's surprising run to the NFC title game in 1996. He would be a definite upgrade to any of the players who played the left tackle posistion in 2001.

does not sound like we're still in the hunt:
Broncos | More On Brockermeyer - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
7:44 PT: Updating an earlier story, the Denver Post reports free agent OT Blake Brockermeyer (Bears) is still in negotiations with the Denver Broncos. He also is talking with the San Francisco 49ers and is expected to make a decision shortly after this weekend's NFL draft.

Blake still has not come to Miami to visit. Let's hope that he at least makes it down here and sees how good he would have it here. However, I think he is probably looking at a long term contract and I don't think Miami should give him one unless he comes cheaper than 2 mill per. He is not one of our key players like JT and Zach.
