Bleacher Report Criticizes Gase On Defense

It's a fair complaint. The offense isn't very good either. It's a serious talent problem and coaching on the defensive side IMHO.

Greg Cosell says we play a very vanilla defensive scheme. Probably because personnel isn't very bright and forgets to do what they are told. We draft based on high you can jump and 40 time. Bellichek won't tolerate dummies on his team.

What do you expect when you have two inept DC? The second one being a protege of the first and you expect a different outcome. Definition of INSANITY!:bang:

Lol, absolutely! VJ is a horrible coach. I can’t believe how many people here were riding his nuts. Then they promote Burke who is even worse. Everyone needs to be fired at this point.

It worries me that i keep reading that certain players are not too "bright". I thought there was a thorough vetting and interview process? You would think traits such as having difficulty to learn schemes and the playbook might ring a few alarm bells.
I've watched some games. It's that total lack of upfront pressure on defense that is killing it for me.

Also seems like when we do get pressure, we miss the sack, and allow the QB to escape.
When we do get the sack, it seems like more of a "coverage" sack, instead of a "jailbreak" attack by the DL.

Gase should just refrain from commenting on the defense. He's got enough to worry about with the offense.

Part of the problem too is the fact that Gase leaves the defense in the hands of his DC entirely, he is the coach of the Miami Dolphins not the coach of the Miami Dolphins offense. As a supporter of his I'm saying IMO he really needs to put down that damn clipboard and get more involved in the running of the team.

this jet game will be very interesting for our defense.. rookie qb, most of their wr's are banged up, one rb healthy, shaky OL.. we shall see

If we were always playing base and giving up all those big plays against the Texans I would argue its the personnel, not the formation.

You can rip apart a formation you see over and over again. Weaknesses can be spotted faster. Adjusting becomes easier.

And if your personnel is what you say it is, doesn't it become even more important to keep the offense guessing and disguising our weaknesses or just having the common sense to bring up 9 to stop the run?

Why did the scheme work so well the first few weeks and all the sudden stop working? Are teams now game-planning against it and we refuse to change the scheme? Or have injuries just not allowed us to run the scheme properly? I never loved this wide-9 scheme to begin with, but something worked early in the season that isnt now. Perhaps the talent we played, but I don't really buy that as every team can be good on any given week.

In Gase's defense, I am not sure he actually believes what he says in interviews. But were not getting any type of savior to come in mid-season and replace Burke so Gase sort of has to defend him. No good comes out of him bashing Burke besides appeasing the fan base perhaps.

how can you fire Burke and keep Gase? Gase put him as DC!

It stopped working with the defensive side of the ball when the pass rush fell off of the planet. Pressure on the qb equals mistakes and turnovers. We haven't pressured the quarterback, so teams can tee off after having time for wide receivers to get open. It really sucks to watch the defense rush 3 and still give up chunk pass plays. I personally think a 3-4 defense is more effective with slower LBs. Who knows. Maybe the center of the earth is made of cheese.
