Bowles to be released from contract, won't join Philbin's staff

I'm anxious for the Dolphins to start making some hires. The sooner we get a staff, the sooner the team can start getting a rapport with the new coaches. Lots of wholes to fill on the coaching staff OC, DC, TE coach, LB coach, OL coach, DLine coach, WR coach.

I don't see what the love fest was with Bowles, he coached a secondary that three years to develop Vontae Davis and Sean Smith, failed to develop Clemons and Jones and the year before last couldn't catch a cold let alone intercept a football. Besides the Raiders interview no one is pounding down the door for interviews.
To be fair, besides Vontae look at what he had to ''develop''. Sean Smith wasnt even a CB when he began his colege career, he was on offense. Smith was a 2nd round pick because of his size but everyone knew he was a project. Then you look at the safeties and realize that nobody there was drafted before the 5th round... I mean!? What the hell do you expect?

So much for Mike McCoy's self-serving fairytale.

Bowles seems like a good soldier, but really, as someone who has not produced impressive results as a position coach, aside from "continuity," why would anyone have the confidence he'd excel as the DC?

A nice guy, I do wish him much success in his future endeavors, but am not exactly crestfallen that we've parted ways either.

See ya...

Coached like Morono in the 2nd half against the patsies...

Should have shown more..

They said he took over play calling duties for the defense in the 2nd half of the season; that's when the defense seemed to turn the corner. That and continuity were my reasons for hoping he was retained, but I never get bent out of shape about any personnel moves they make; I hope for the best.

best move made by philbin so far.

shows he truely IS in control of his staff and IS his own guy.

i still cant understand the hand full of guys who wanted this LOSER on the staff. nice guy, dresses sharp, street cred, jz fan, players LOVE HIM [and they sure repaid him huh?] infectious smile........ NONE of that crap matters.

if you can TRUELY teach, your units [on 3 different teams] are not at the bottom portion of the nfl year after year.

oh well, HAPPY DAYS!! he is outta here!!!!

"THEY"? who is "they"?

this was nothing more than a rumour brought here by ONE guy, KB21 and all of a sudden people are reciting it like its some fact.

problem is, NO ONE, not kb or anyone else has offered up any proof by video, article, team anouncment, NOTHING!!

and i have asked over and over. NOTHING other than "well, i heard it".

it wasnt just the defense that changed second half of the season. the offense went through HUGE change also. reggie bush all of a sudden can actually run the ball. he is getting out in space and making huge plays. moore is getting the offense down and connecting with brandon marshall making him look once again like the star he is.

the team got together after it was apparant tony was going to get the hook and they PUBLICLY SAID they got together and admitted they hadnt played well and were going to let it all out to help tonys job. so wonder todd also took over play calling on offense to?

if ANYONE will actually think this through, everything that would have taken place within the team had this actually happened would have been massive and public. a lacky being handed the play calling duties over a HIGHLY paid and respected defensive guru? really?

no. didnt happen.

people need to stop this. its silly!!!!

Could be another sign we are switching to the 4-3?

Yeah, so that Mike McCoy guy might want to smarten up in the future and just keep his mouth shut. He comes off looking like a "he said/she said" dolt.

This is a little tongue-in-cheek, but essentially what I think likely occurred:

Could be a sign we want are d backs to not be out of position every week.

I disagree that Todd hasn't produced good results. The guy has not been given a lot of talent to work with on the back end. He has some athletic guys, but he mostly has had to deal with players that do not have good ball skills and do not have good instincts. He also had to deal with a defensive coordinator that would constantly ask his players to do things that are part of their weaker aspects. For example, playing Sean Smith in zone coverage so much instead of press man.

You know what though. Despite all that, this team did improve from allowing opponents to have a 103.8 passer rating through the first 5 games of the year to allowing opponents a 73.3 passer rating over the final 11 games of this season. That is a monumental improvement over the course of the season, and Todd Bowles should get a lot of credit for that improvement.
