Bradley Chubb

We could release him post June 1 with only $9.1M in dead cap and $19.5 in cap savings which would give us more than enough money to sign our draft class and then sign a couple more FA's who are still available.

DE would then become a draft need if we know that is our intention to make him a post June 1 release. Certainly at least by the mid rounds.
Yep and you left out that 18 mil cap hit in 26 as well with that post june 1 cut. Might as well add in 24 as well as he didn't even play. So 16 in 24, 9 in 25 and 18 in 26. 40 mil is cap assets over 3 years with zero games played. No way to sugar coat this deal/trade.

I totally agree, trading him for him was a big mistake in terms of draft capital and cap space.

It was strange that people were arguing (at any time) it was a good trade.

Considering we gave him top of market extension after the season… We essentially gave up a 1st round pick for basically 10 games of service - that is absolutely INSANE.

I think he’s get $10mil on a 1 year deal EASILY. Multiple suitors.

Shaq Barrett on the fringe of retirement got $8mil from us… Will Fuller got $12mil didn’t he?

Chubb has more juice than that left.
Will Fuller got exactly 10 million. Sad that I remember that like a bad dream lol

Best thing we can do now is try and make him take a massive pay cut, not a restructure to just shift money down the road. Nobody will sign him to a big deal at this point and he has no more guaranteed money left. Got to take a stand.

I would like to keep him assuming he can contribute on a regular basis and in doing so get Mike out of Griers ear for an edge at 13.

I am fine keeping him. But it has to be at a pay cut, not a restructure to kick the can. And no way we can pay him his salary at the moment. His open market value is shot. His base salary in like 19 million. Say he has to cut that to like at least half, nobody gives him 9.5 on the open market, so he still gains money vs cut outright.

Well the realist in me says somewhere in between 9-19. We shall see

You are severely underestimating the pass rusher market.

Van Ginkel got a multi year 10 million a year deal never had over 6.5 sacks before deal

Frankie Luvu-3 year 31 million never had over 7 sacks before deal

Chase Young- 1 year 13 million never had over 7.5

Carl Granderson- 4 year 51 million never had over 5.5 sacks prior to deal

Demarcus Lawerence- makes 13 million a year hasn’t had double digit sacks since 2018. 6.5 is the most he’s had since 2018 and only 3 out of the 6 years since 2018 has he had over 5 sacks

Chubb had 11 sacks in 2023 and he’s one of the better edge defenders vs the run as well. Has his value gone down? Absolutely but to say nobody gives him 9.5 a year is just wrong. He’d have multiple suitors lining up offering him 2-3 year deals at 10-12 million a year. Realistically if he trims his base down from around 19.5 to around 15 you keep him and reevaluate next year. So while your right he won’t make as much with another team, he also has us by the balls as we owe him a solid chunk of his signing bonus against our cap so cutting him doesn’t give us much unless June 1st and even then that money is pretty useless as all the big time free agents are gone by then. If he plays this year at 15 million, we save 4.5 and can cut him much easier next year if he doesn’t look good.

I am not giving him more than 12 mil. a year, we need to shore up some money somewhere and to only trim 4-5 mil. off a guy who just got paid to literally do nothing last yr. while getting a year older and coming off an injury? We have all of the leverage, we have Chop, Phillips, Ogbah and some other young players. He either takes the amount or cut him. Why are people saying it is one more hole? We literally just played a whole season without him and damn near made the playoffs.

He was only paid 6 million last year and restructured the rest which is why he’s owed that much the next few years.

4-5 million is more than generous and fair. You want to take 7 million from a a guy that was hurt because our idiot coaches had him in during a blowout loss garbage time? Not really his fault should of never been in there.

He does have leverage because we take on 27 million in dead cap if we cut him meaning either we save nothing this year and still pay his full cap hit or he’s a June 1st cut and we get meaningless money that can’t even be used to sign good free agents as they’ll be all signed by June while also taking 18 million in dead cap next year.

Take the 4-5 million cap relief, see how he looks and reevaluate next year. By then we can cut him much easier and save 10 million without June 1st designated
