Brandon Alberts contract #'s

OK here is a quick example I made of how a front loaded contract looks against a back loaded contract. For those thinking a front loaded contract would provide more favorable cap conditions when we re-sign Tannehill in 2 years, well....here is your math. I used a fictional static cap number of $20 million because we are only holding up one contract here. The backloaded contract is Branden Albert's real reported contract numbers. Bascially, the way we set up Albert's contract provides us the most flexibility down the road when we need to re-sign Tannehill. Making it a frontloaded contract would not have helped. The ability to roll over money makes frontloading obsolete.

The difference of an extra 6 million this year, is a lot more then an extra 10 million next year. Assuming the reports will be right that cap will reach 150m next year

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the number this year is 132 mil, so next year wouldn't possibly be an 18 mil increase. I think you may be thinking two-three years down the road.

Good point. Wish it was more of a 2 year pact regardless.

Miami will roll over about 10-12 mil this year. Next year it could reach 150 on cap. I don't think this will be a huge problem, just hope we do not continue to do many more big contracts like this one. It really hurts when the player does not work out (AKA Wheeler).

Tanny is going to be 14-18 mil when the time comes. Then gotta think about keeping our own guys with him. This team is VERY young and we might have some issues signing our own down the road as the NFL standard now is overpay or pick up a free agent name over 30+ after the first couple days of Free Agency. Hope we draft really well in the up-coming years, then it is a mute point, if you can draft well... see Seahawks.

i just want to know the cap hits if we were to try and get out after year 2 and after year 3...i'm just gonna cross my fingers on this one...i read $25 mil guaranteed can anyone verify it...i guess it could have been worse

we blew the rest of the tackle market away though...i guess that's why other teams moved away...not sure we had to go this far looking at other guys numbers but is what it is i guess

He was overpaid because the Phins likely wanted to get him in the fold quickly so that they could focus on other pressing needs. They didn't want to get into a bidding war and a prolonged pursuit of a LT.

I figured we wouldn't finally front load a contract...love Dawn's work but this to me was an unnecessary risk...would've liked to see this front loaded and gives us a bit more of an out after year 2.

I agree, but the 2nd or 3rd years can always be converted to a signing bonus, and given a base salary for those years. At least I think....

We over paid because having a top tier LT is a damn costly position to keep.
