Brandon Gibson odd man out ?

Between Binns and Matthews, it comes down to if Binns can stay healthy and if Matthews shows the consistency to take advantage of his talent.

Another factor that could affect Matthews and Binns is if we keep a faster WR that can return kicks. Their skill sets may be too close to Gibson and Landry. I'm a little concerned that only Wallace can stretch the field. I would love to have a 6th WR that can take kick returns to the house.

Wallace can without a doubt stretch the field vertically but Binns, who ran a 4.50 at the combine can get behind defenders as well. He just needs to stay healthy. As the Patriots has shown, you don't need to always stretch defenses vertically to have an effective passing game. Getting your playmakers in one on one situations is just as important.

Matthews returned punts in college and was pretty good at it but I think Thigpen returns to that role again this because of the versatility he also brings to the offense.

"Financially, both players are easy cuts as the Dolphins might have some hard choices ahead of them"

I really don't see how they can say that about Hartline. He still has 4.2M of bonus money that needs to be written off.
The way the contract was written pretty much made it a 3 year deal.
Now next year this statement would be pretty accurate and he could be gotten rid of without much financial worry.

:bobdole:

No way Gibson gets cut in hopes Binn shines.

Short of Gibson stinking it up during camp (even if limited participation), he will be on the 53.

Wallace
Hartline
Gibson
Matthews
Landry

We carry 5 WR's leaving 4 TE's for Lazor offense.

Another bull**** Gibson thread?

We are not getting rid of our best WR from last season. deal with it.

Gibson counts $3.7M on this years cap, and we would save $1.7M by trading or cutting him. Based on how I saw him play last year, no way in hell I am looking to save that money with no reason to do so. Get rid of a good WR to add to $1.7 M to the $13M we already have in the bank makes no sense whatsoever.

Doesn't make much sense to me either SB2. This appears to me more of the same conjecture on who the odd man out might be. The situation will evolve through training camp and pre-season games and possible injuries. It's still way too early to make any kind of educated decision IMO.

+1.

This team is starving for elite talent and play makers, so lets cut one of the bright spots from last year.

For what? Binns? FH's latest Training Camp HOF.

Last year it was Devlin, who's next?

You honestly think he's our best receiver? HONESTLY?

Well, in all honesty if we take into account play during the season Gibson was the most consistent.

Sure, we can blame play calling and Tannehill can't hit Wallace deep when he has a 3 step lead on the CB.

Short answer, yes. Gibson was the best WR on this squad last year.

would hate to see us drop Gibson unless he is still injured. it doesn't make sense when we are sitting on as much cap space as we currently have.

Yeah, Tannehill has a good receiving group. So, let's get rid of Gibson and Hartline to give him a bigger challenge. LMAO

That's ridiculous.. Tannehiill missed that chemistry he had with him after Gibson went down.. If he hadn't, the season could well have ended up differently. After proving his clutchness on the field for us, coupled with him leading all receivers in '12 on both TD and 3rd down completion percentages for the lowly Rams, ain't no way he of all receivers should be odd man out!
