Brandon Gibson odd man out ?

I think Matthews Gibson and Landry can all play outside as well but ideal they are slots...Gibson if he is the odd man out I think will come down to the staff views him As a more east and west option and they want to get more vertical with the routes etc that and Gibbs shows fear on the inside around traffic that you don't really want...Mathews and Landry will nut up more...especially landry

I don't recall Gibson showing much in the way of fear and I value his hands more than Matthews'. But I've always appreciated the way Matthews turns upfield quickly. He's catlike in that sense and it should suit the Lazor offense. Gibson for me is more consistent though and hes the craftier receiver in terms of body position and catch radius.

Money wise, Gibson is a $3.7M cap hit if we keep him, and a $1.7M hit if we do not. I don't consider money an issue here because we simply do not need it more than a good player.

Many things have to play out in camp. Is Landry really that good? Have fences been mended with Matthews and Philbin? IF healthy, I want to keep him, and believe it will be the right choice for this team, this QB, and this year.
Agreed. The Dolphins aren't cap-strapped and Gibson is better than Matthews or Binns so there is no reason to get rid of him

Another reason for him to worry is he's operating right in the area where Tannehill is extremely effective, I'm sure the staff understands this so an above average performance to us may be "meh" to them. Kind of like how people are skeptical Moreno will be anything close to what he was in Denver last season, with manning at QB all other 10 players benefit where Manning is extremely effective, which is everywhere.

The reason I think we keep him though is Philbin doesn't seem too keen on just handing rookies jobs, him and Hickey believe in competition and enhancing the team with the draft rather use the draft as a tool to fill holes. If Landry and Gibson both turn out to be great and hopefully push each other to be even better than they would have been otherwise thats fantastic and exactly the type of atmosphere Philbin is looking for. This way you get depth and when it comes time to make decisions on contracts you have options.

That's as good an argument for why Gibson might stay as any. Probably the best one. I'm not sure I agree with it on a philosophical level but it would fit with what we've seen Philbin do and say in the past.

I don't think we know what Hickey's philosophy is, but one of the notable things about both James and Landry is that these guys were both labeled as "plug and play" types. They're experienced and without top flight upside, but they're "ready." To keep around a relatively extraneous piece like Gibson after you've invested in a plug and play type would be... I dunno, something's not quite wired right.

Dolphins coach Joe Philbin has "no major (worries)" about Brandon Gibson's (patellar tendon) health, and believes he'll be able to go "full throttle" in the near future.
Gibson is in the final stages of his recovery, but should still be considered week to week. Gibson needs to be healthy for the preseason, where he'll attempt to hold off second-rounder Jarvis Landry for slot duties. There's a strong chance Gibson ends up settling in at No. 4 on the depth chart.

Walrus is right in that a 4th, and especially 5th WR is not very likely to see the field much, and paying $2M for one of those is not a good business move.

My point is that I believe Gibson in better than both, as of now, that Landry and Matthews are cheap and unproven to different degrees so far. Next year, we know a lot more, and can save over $3.2M on Gibson, while waiting to see what we have.

If we were to get a good trade offer before the deadline because of injury, it has to be considered based on Landry and Matthew's play and development, as well as Gibson showing he is healthy. That's a ways away, and not something to consider now.

Gibson counts $3.7M on this years cap, and we would save $1.7M by trading or cutting him. Based on how I saw him play last year, no way in hell I am looking to save that money with no reason to do so. Get rid of a good WR to add to $1.7 M to the $13M we already have in the bank makes no sense whatsoever.

they are not interested in saving money at this point. only when things get risky (injury ect.), but someone needs to ask dawn about this when seriousness occurs with a player. She holds the purse.
