Breaking News: Marlins-City of Miami-MLB reach Stadium deal

my point is that he shouldnt be bashed for having a low payroll...

I agree, and the people who bash him for having almost the league minimum payroll don't understand what's going on in South Florida as it relates to baseball. No one is going to Marlins games. Loria and Beinfest have to operate the team like they could go out of business tomorrow.

im not sure the location helps attendence from the latino part of the city, in just that having a new stadium, with guarenteed baseball everynight and not having to sit through thunderstorms and 95 degree heat will be the big draw, with of course the chance to see hanley ramirez, maybin, coughlan, miller, west, volstad, etc. while they are in their prime...

Dolphin Stadium is a pretty good venue for night games, man. There are some nice breezes that sweep through and cool things down.

The only people I care about on this roster are Hanley Ramirez, Kevin Gregg, Mike Jacobs, and Scott Olsen (for his off-the-field antics.) The rest need to show me something this season.

I'll attend my annual three or four games, but damn I hope this year's squad can do something. I was disappointed with how they fell apart last year.

I dont get why the county would waste the the money....Its crazy. When was the last time they averaged 10k a season. And thats in a stadium thats easy to get to. No one goes to the games now and a new stadium wont change anything. Just get them out of joe robbie, after that i dont care. Next on the list to kick out is the hurricanes.

For what reason--the smoke machine?

No, the field sucks and having another set of cleats on it every few weeks wont help it...when the marlins are gone it wont matter but ive seen what happens to a field when 2 or more football teams share it (the citrus dump, and RayJay)

it sucks that it's only going to seat 37,000. but i'm thrilled, we get to keep the marlins and the dolphins don't have the infield dirt. also, i love that it's at the old OB. (i know i'm probably alone with that one)

I find it very interesting that the teams that have very little national followings, and are not loved that well by the locals, all seem to be going to smaller ballparks.
Examples: This proposed Marlins park at 37,000. The proposed Rays park at about 34,000. A probable park for the A's in the southeast Bay Area town of Fremont that will be smaller than 35,000. PNC Park in Pittburgh with barely over 38,000 capacity.
These are not up to the levels of the new Philadelphia (43,500) San Diego (42,500) or Cincinnati (42,000) ballparks.

On a grass field, this might be a concern. But there's an invention, it's called FieldTurf. I highly suggest you investigate it. I doubt very highly that Dolphin Stadium will remain a grass field.

Good, the Dolphins should be rebuilt by the time the Marlins stadium IS built. So we'll have a decent team on a playable surface with any luck.

its not a bad venue for night games...but the looming threat of rain everynight as well as not being the best baseball environment definitely hurt its attractiveness in getting the average fan to attend...i live in massachusetts or else id attend as many games as possible...

there is pretty much no MLB team that doesnt play in a city...the move to miami will do wonders into turning this franchise into one of the elite franchises in baseball...because the recognition for talent is there without a doubt

i dont think either the new shea nor new yankee stadium will have over 40,000 seats...its just the new trend in stadiums being built now...and its fine by me...im sure the marlins fans will have that place a rockin when we are ready to be in the playoffs year after year after year

So the infield dirt has prevented the Dolphins from going to the playoffs???

Don't disrespect a team that brought two Championships to that stadium. I can't wait for the Marlins to get away from that devil landlord Huizenga. Thanks for the ****y lease.
