Brian Xanders interviewing for GM job

He left because Elway took over. He worked well with Elway for little over a year until Elway got up to speed, but then they did not need him there any longer. So the Lions snatched to improve their staff. Team player, not an ego guy, and will go for a playmaker, a la Demaryius Thomas.

Playmaker like Kelvin Benjamin from his alma mater?

I believe Detroit had three rookies starting this season. I'm not sure on their performance not a big Detroit follower but they hit the field.

Martin Mayhew has final say there.

Xanders have mixed results in draft. Took Moreno and Tebow in first, but also got Demaryius Thomas with 22nd pick & Eric Decker in 2nd round

That Tebow pick was all McDaniel IMO but Xander was the GM and he did master a pretty good trade up to get in position to take Tebow.

Still...18/25 starters from the 2013 Denver Broncos opening day roster were guys drafted by Xander...that's impressive because it was a playoff team and it was a playoff team in 2012 and 2011 with Tebow. This is a guy who drafted Ryan Clady and Zane Beadles (who I hope we look at in free agency).

He's young still (42) and has the best track record of any of the candidates we've looked at...proven track record. This would be an impressive hire.

seems like he was the one primarily responsible for the current success of the Broncos...not horse face Elway.

Successful proven track record - SEEMS like the best candidate so far.

He does indeed have a record you can look at, he has the 'modern' and 'creative' approach to the job we are looking for, and he demonstrated that he can get along in an ugly situation (working with McDaniels and then Elway, and basically being hamstrung/forced out both times).

Again, glad we decided to interview him and this a hire I'd be really happy with. I hope Ross gives him a fair shot even though he's not one of Peterson's boys.

Well Xander was the GM when they signed Peyton Manning in free agency but make no mistake Elway was a major influence in getting Manning to sign. However, looking at the factors of each team Denver made the most sense. Better talent on the roster of any team that was trying to sign Manning (credit to Xander) and more salary cap space giving them the ability to offer Manning more money than anyone else (credit to Xander). The more cap space comes from having guys on their rookie contracts who contribute to wins rather than paying for overpriced free agents. That's pretty key too.

One thing else I haven't seen mentioned yet is he is the ONLY candidate so far that has actually been a GM. I think that's huge as making a change this close to the draft and running the draft board.

Horse face had something to do with attracting a QB named Manning to Denver. I think that the Broncos success this year has something to do with their QB.
