Brown MIA

Sort of like when Edgerrin James held out for 21 days as a rookie and then went on to win the rushing title that year????????

It's not an "every time X, then Y" type thing, and to be sure, the more techinique and development enter into the position's requirements, the more a player is going to suffer. Arguably, running back may have a lower "development / talent" requirement than any other position, but you do see holdouts hurting development all the time. Or is TC for RB's simply something to give the other 10 guys on O something to guage their improvement by?

I am convinced that something will get done with Ronnie tomorrow. Dolphins don't have camp, they have a good sense of what to pay him with #1 and #5 now signed. Plus, Mueller is a good negotiator.

Yeah, I've lost my patience. And I'm of the belief that NFL players should get all the damn money they can because their career could be over in one play. So when a guy like T.O or Edge holds out, I aint mad at them. But a rookie is a different story. They should have had some parameters in place and got this damn thing done by now.

I'm sure he's getting an offer that will assure he will never, ever have to work any other job in his life and will be able to spend his "retirement" days jetting the world to numerous villas, sachas, cottages by the sea, and drive around in a different lambraghini for each day of the week if he so desires. He needs to get in camp.

That's fine, I'm sure you're right about the offer that has already been given, but that does not mean that it is a fair offer based off of the bar that the Niners set.

This will most likely be a 6-7 year contract, so he better make sure it's as good as he can possibly get!! He is stuck with it for that long, however, over that same span, he'll have 6-7 more training camps!! Which works out to how many weeks of camp?? What's the big deal if he misses a couple of weeks to get his business taken care of?? We all do remember that the NFL is a business, right??

Oh, and RB is definately the easiest position to translate into the NFL.....

LaDanian missed most of his rookie training camp, 1250+ yds, 10tds

It's all about getting value. When I finally get into private practice as an orthopod, do you think I'm going to sign onto a PPO that tells me they will give me $800 per knee scope when the going rate for knee scopes is $2,000? Hell no!

NOTE: Those are arbitrary numbers I threw out. I don't know if that is in fact the accurate numbers, but they will suffice as an example.

No, but I doubt he's getting low-balled at the rate of 8.0 Mill signing bonus if the value is in the neighborhood of 20 Mill either.

Experience in only part of the issue. Talent is the other part, and that's something that Ronnie Brown dwarf's Lamar Gordon in. Nothing against Lamar Gordon. He's a big fast back that is good when he has holes to run through, but he does very little to create for himself. He is also an indecisive runner, and I believe those that have attended camp can agree with that. He takes too many stutter steps in the backfield for my taste.

The thing is, when Ronnie Brown gets on the field, he will make an impact in both the running and passing game....an all around impact that will be greater than what either Ricky or Lamar can do as an all around player, IMO.

I agree. I think Gordon is a good back. I think he is even a starting caliber back, but his not a star back. And he is no where near the talent level of Brown.

You're not alone in that thought. You'd think Ronnie would want to make the most of his opportunity and get himself into camp quick. If he's not in by next week - he's hurting himself and his position with the team. There shouldn't be that much to haggle over the bar has been set.

I'm not so sure it's Brown himself that's holding out as opposed to his agent. If everyone remembers all the draft time stories about him he is totally selfless and just wanted to get in and make a differnece and be a team player, he didn't want contracts and all that to get in the way. I think it's more of his agent tring to get him the most possible money he can. Not saying brown doesn't wanna get paid, but I personally think it is more the agent wanting more $ than Brown.

I agree Brown (and his agent) should negotiate the best possible deal he can. My point is in the short term, (which could ripple throughtout his rookie season) is he could be risking his rank among the backs we have. If he's not starting at the beginning of the season, when Ricky comes back he could get the bulk of the PT.
I could be wrong but i guess i really just want to see what the guy can do esp. while RW is still available to split time with him in the PS. The shape of good things to come!

I understand that he wants 1st round Pick, #2 overall money. Rookies Should be in camp. The team and us for that matter, have put It's future hopes on him to carry the load. Surely if he proves himself the RB that they think he is, the money will come. Ricky should be injury insurance.

he will still holdout and not sign til cadillac's contract with the bucs is released.

his agent will use cadillac's contract as a base and increase the bonus and per year payments slightly.

Just curious: Has anyone heard anything though the media from Ricky since his press conference monday? If not is he shutting out the media for now?

All too many agents of these early draft picks get to greedy, the guy hasn't even participated in a practice with pads as of yet. He'll be in practice within a week probably, however with the backfield they have signed @ the present tim, RW, Gordon, Morris, KJ, Minor, they shouldn't over pay a unproven rookie, who's seemingly working the system. If he's not signed by early this week, I don't forsee him participating in next Monday's game. See everyone @ Canton!
