Brown Stiff???

All the talk about Brown being “stiff†(which goes all the way back to his college recruiting days) has me concerned. I mean, being “stiff†in the NFL as a RB is a deathblow. Or, put another way, I can’t think of one RB in the NFL that’s really big-time productive who’s “stiff.â€Â

So far to me it sounds like Brown is stud athlete, an all-around player and a great team guy, but no one seems to feel he’s going to light the NFL up 1500+ yards. I don’t know, but straight ahead down hill runners don’t do so well in the NFL.

Maybe some one can shed some light on this for me. Has anyone seen Brown run enough to offer some insight into his “style?†If so, what’s his big positives and what concerns do you have?

I don't think Saban and Linehan would draft a "stiff".

Eddie George is a stiff runner. If Brown can be half the Running Back that George was in his prime then you got yourself an RB.

No one feels that he is going to light up the NFL because no one has seen him play with real players in the NFL. Wait till about week twelve and well have a much better idea of what you have with Ronnie Brown.

Sounds to me like you're the one being defensive and stooping to name calling. You posted your opinion, now you have to allow others to post their's. When I read a post from a 24 year old that just flew off the handle because someone disagreed with him, I loose respect for the guy.

Just for your info, I posted a QUESTION and not an opinion --- I HAVE NOT seen Brown play and therefore I have NO OPINION of him --- only pro's and con's regarding his POTENTIAL via various sources.

You're the one who posted pure "opinion" about how we drafted the "best RB available" --- like THAT means crap in the real world of ACTUAL production. I'm not looking for BS feedback like that, I'm asking if anyone on this site has actually seen Brown extensively and therefore provide some real insight into his style and what he's REALLY all about --- not the HYPE that he's the 2nd coming of whoever because MOST 1st round RB never live up to their draft hype potential.

Last, the tag "stiff" is a big question mark to me, and I have read that comment on Brown in a number or reports which tends to add credibility to the fact that he MAY BE "stiff." (Which, BTW, is not to be confused with call the guy a "stiff").

you guys are worring me...talking about stiffs...c'mon think or a better term than that...maybe runs upright...but stiff...damn you guys worry me.

Go Fins!!!

Dude, you need to grow up. THis is a forum for opinions, if you can't take some friendly criticism, then get out of finheaven and go post somewhere else. You're saying you don't want to read "pure opinion" on the subject. What the hell do you think someone is going to say whose "actually seen Brown extensively and therefore provide some real insight". Guess what, that real insight is still speculation and opinion. Think prozac. :shakeno:

Not in many people's eyes. He was a product of someone giving him the ball and telling him to run straight in the pile 30 times a game. IMO, EG = one of the most overated players in a long time....right there with his teammate McNair, and then Alstott.

They should send many thanks to John Madden for hyping them constantly.

How you interpret what you see on Sunday's has me shaking my head, EG ran for over 10,000 yds and 68 tds in his career. In his prime he was one of the most punishing runners in the league. THAT"S A VERY GOOD CAREER for a player picked 14 th overall. Who's overating him and what does Madden have to do with anything?

Stev Mcnair passed for over 23,000 thousand yards with 140 tds against 92 ints. he led his team to the SB and Snagged CO mvp. Over rated? By what standards????

Alstott was what he was a FB who was; a very good lead blocker and a decent downhill runner who could could tote the rock 10 or so times a game.

None of this has to do with my main point which is some "stiff" runners can expeirence success in this league. Eddie is a local kid (Abington High) Who should be patted on the back for his Very GOOD CAREER instead of labeling him overrated...

"Stiff" is a very apt description for a RB that lacks swivel in the hips and can’t make quick cuts and slick moves. Having a “stiff†running style is NOT the same as lacking forward lean --- that’s a completely different attribute (or lack thereof).

Here’s a few examples: Larry Czonka was “stiff†but had tremendous forward lean and tractor power in the torso on down.

Mercury Morris had tremendous swivel in his hips but ran rather straight up for “scat back†type of player.

If you could put Merc and Czonk TOGETHER you’d have the ideal combination of speed, power and fluidity. So from what I’ve heard about Brown, I’m expecting to see a RB that is best suited for rather straight ahead plays and NOT an illusive guy with great moves…

wow that went right over your head.

I still say Ronnie Brown's vision and cutback abilities are underrated.

I've watched a lot of Auburn games and film on Ronnie Brown.

Just because Caddy's vision was better, doesn't mean Brown's is BAD.

It's the same thing with Caddy's pass-catching ability. Just because Ronnie can catch the ball and run with it better than Caddy can, some people misinterpreted that Caddy's pass catching is BAD.

That's not the case.

I got it...you perv! Well if you don't like the term stiff then maybe we should say "Brown runs very erect"...or maybe "When Brown runs he looks like a long, hard shaft"...perhaps "When I watch Brown run, he reminds me of my winkie." Does that sound better?

Sorry punk but you've got it backward --- YOU need to grow up and perhaps heed some of your OWN advice. I post a question and you snap back like a smart arse but you’re obviously a dumb dick without a freakin' clue. That's IGNORENCE in my world, and if the word fits wear around your inflated head.

Obviously you think you're big crap around here by telling me to go post somewhere else --- but your just a PUNK lacking the intelligence to actually read and comprehend a question of FIRST HAND knowledge which allows an opinion to actually be formed! But I guess that’s standard issue in your world (ignorance that is).

F***k off and go post your stupidity in someone else’s thread.

You can take your posting to another forum for the next day or two for acting like this - TerryTate, Forum Linebacker
