Browns Release D'Qwell Jackson.....Thoughts? Me Rikey

Normally it would seem that way, but they ar $51m under the cap. Might just be a new philosophy and he was expendable.

$51 mil under the cap!!! why in gods name were people ever writing alex macks name down as a target ha ha...good god they're love boat rich...did not know they had that kind of scratch to spend...

yeah but i have heard thats an aponte thing she doesnt like to front load the contracts in year one for some reason...could have been ireland also though wanting to spend on more guys in a win now or walk the plank mode so give all low 1st year cap hits...but apontes pay it forward stuff just doesnt make good sense to me...especially when we have to sit on hot garbage like this now
I agree. It can only be feasible when you have an emerging star player who you have extremely high confidence in his ability to remain healthy. In this case, they were optimistic about Wheeler but after many years in the league, he was definitely not an emerging star.
The analogy to this is the CFO who tries to juggle the results to give the appearance of a favorable result. It doesn't work. You might get lucky and get away with some financial manipulations but ultimately it comes undone. The very best CFOs train their team to be honest and don't try to manipulate results just to look good. Same should apply to GMs in the NFL.

the key if you are gonna actually back load is doing is with young guys...ones that you can get the years out of before you can get out with great confidence and little future cap consequences...30 or plus year old guys with back loaded contracts are playing russian roullette

if i'm gonna backload ideally the guys 26...so with mike wallace i get it...although the day he loses his wheels will be the day he's done...so there's some risk there when a guys game completely revolves around one particular thing...the threat of his speed

the day he starts putting out tape where the speed is not there and the no longer accounting for it by the defense starts showing is the day miami is gonna want to be out...let's hope that's at least 3 more years away

Funny but last year Wallace was mostly turned into a posesion receiver instead of a speed/go receiver.

Ozzy rules!!

you can blame the oline for not allowing the time for routes to develop more down the field...we took what was given to us...

and wallace still had plenty of opportunities off play action but they fell through for a variety of reasons...including the qb if anyones asking ha ha

I spoke to D'Qwell Jackson (@dq52), and while he's asked me not to share the teams yet, he already has visit for tomorrow in a great place.

Jackson isn't much of a run defender but he's pretty solid when asked to rush the passer. His tackle numbers are a bit misleading

We were lacking a LB tackling machine and statistically that is what he is. I don't follow Cleveland close enough, but his tackle count is impressive.
Although why is Cleveland doing this? On the surface seems illogical.

This probably means 3 teams have reached out to him.

Seven teams -1/4 of the NFL -reached out to D'Qwell Jackson following his release by Browns. Deciding which free-agent visits to take first

So was Wheeler's at around 118 but we all know most were 5 yards down field..
i do agree we need a run stopping LB. Maybe they get that in the draft.

Im not one of those dudes who wants Miami to sign every guy who get cut but this guy intriuges me. Sure tackler inside.

If you put him in Ellerbes spot and kicked Ellerbe to Wheelers spot would that work?

wish we could kick ellerbee to backup where he belongs
