Bye bye Gus

you cant win in this league if you're not accurate. thats the most important trait a qb can have. thats whats kept gus from being a starter in this league. he'll make 3 nice passes in a row then go 0-4. you just cant do that. anyway props to aj. he played his heart out

Feeley deserves to start on Thursday. Gus had soooooooooooooo many chances and screwed it up. :nono:

The competition is done, and we're just waiting for the results. Nobody who will start week 1 will see more than a series next week. That's just the way the preseason works.

I'm afraid Saban already made his choice in Gus by letting him play so long tonight w/ the 1st stringers. Unfortunately, I believe AJ has come forward more in these last 2 games.

Unlike some of the posters here, I am not a huge fan of either one of our QBs. But they're the best we have at the moment and one of them needs to step up. Both Feeley and Frerotte have been inconsistent when starting with the 1st teamers.

So let's not trash the QB that's not the flavor of the month, because as Coach Saban said both Feeley and Frerotte will see a lot of playing time this season.

I truly do not have a favorite in this qb race, but I want the guy thats playing better to play. Gus has proven that even with his "thorough knowledge" of the offensive system, he's still will pan out to nothing more than a career backup. For the second week in a row, AJ has looked better. Albeit against second teamers, but looked better nonetheless. AJ should get all the reps with the first team this week, and he should start against the Falcons. Glad I live in Athens, GA, I'll be able to finally watch another preseason game!

Nick hasn't named a starter, so the issue is still up in the air. I'm neither outraged by what Gus has done nor rooting against AJ at this point. He'll consult with Linehan and make a choice. The worst thing that can happen is he screws it up and this team loses a couple of additional games. This isn't a playoff team due to poor depth.

I guess its AJ time to start. And if he does good then he is the man. Or just say it now that he is the starter.
i feel a "who shud start" poll on Fin Heaven coming.

The problem is that if A.J. is as consistent as some of you claim he is, there would be no competition. Feeley looked good against the Buccaneers' reserves tonight. Period. Does he deserve a shot with the 1st stringers next week? Absolutely. I want the best man to win. But let's not get carried away with this. Offensive players have lobbied for Frerotte to be the starter (most notably Randy McMichael) and have said he carries himself as a team leader.

That depth thing is going to bite us during the season for sure. It is ashame though...our 1st team O and D is pretty good. The QB just needs to do better.
You can't make it through a season w/o depth though.

I just want the best QB. Right now I'm not convinced its Gus. We vshould have been up 21/28 - 3 but he overthrew people by a mile. What's worse, we had to watch all the bucs QB's put the deep ball right on the money.

Wonder if Saban is wondering why DW let Brian go....I know , past history>

Guess we'll have 2 QB's this year.

I was wondering why we let him go back then...oh yeah...DW loved Fiedler for some reason. GO figure?

There is a reason why he only had 7 pass attempts with the first string. It's because he has looked bad in practice and has a penchant for making bad decisions when he's under pressure. That's not exactly the way to work your way into the starting lineup. Granted, Frerotte has been less than stellar this preseason, but if players like Randy McMichael are lobbying for Gus to start, they know a little more about the situation than you or I do.

Hey, if A.J. steps up and turns into a real QB, I will be THRILLED! As I previously said, I am not really thrilled with either one, but they're all we have until one of them establishes themself as a starter or until next season.
