Bye bye Gus

The problem is that if A.J. is as consistent as some of you claim he is, there would be no competition. Feeley looked good against the Buccaneers' reserves tonight. Period. Does he deserve a shot with the 1st stringers next week? Absolutely. I want the best man to win. But let's not get carried away with this. Offensive players have lobbied for Frerotte to be the starter (most notably Randy McMichael) and have said he carries himself as a team leader.

i have been defending feeley from day one here and takin a lot of crap for it. its obvious to me this guy needs a shot at starting and getting reps but it seems every coach we bring in hates the guy. the guy improved his game from last year and it was evident from the first preseason game on. granted it was difficult to spot but it was there. he stopped throwing picks, he started looking off receivers and as the preseason went on he started getting comfortable in the pocket and making the right reads. it seems like nothing the guy does is good enough for some people here. as for players lobbying for gus lets hear what chambers has to say after the pass gus threw that almost got him killed. I guarantee you david boston doesnt want frerotte starting

There is a reason why he only had 7 pass attempts with the first string. It's because he has looked bad in practice and has a penchant for making bad decisions when he's under pressure. That's not exactly the way to work your way into the starting lineup. Granted, Frerotte has been less than stellar this preseason, but if players like Randy McMichael are lobbying for Gus to start, they know a little more about the situation than you or I do.

Hey, if A.J. steps up and turns into a real QB, I will be THRILLED! As I previously said, I am not really thrilled with either one, but they're all we have until one of them establishes themself as a starter or until next season.

Seems kinda like the AAA baseball pitcher that is tearing up the minor leagues, but you won't give him a chance because he's never proven himself in the majors. AJ seems to have proven over tha last 2 games that he deserves some time with the 1st team. If not now, when? What would you like to see him do to get his shot?

You know what the problem is? Gus is suppose to know the system. He's suppose to be the veteran. He's suppose to be way ahead of Feeley. He's not.

I think the prospects for AJ being a long term quality starter are pretty darn bleak. The dude struggled to beat out Jay and is struggling against Gus. If they're unworthy of being starters as many here believe, doesn't that suggest it is also true of AJ?

Good point.

Carey was unworthy of being a starter last year. Does he really deserve to be here?

I think Feeley definitely deserves a shot with the first team offense next week. We've seen what Frerotte can do over a couple of games, and now it's Feeley's turn. I'm just not expecting too much.

That says more about Frerotte than Feeley.

I'm sorry -- was Feeley a rookie last year and everbody hid it from the world by suggesting he was a veteran from the Eagles?

The two situations aren't close to comparable. You might think he's the next Rich Gannon, but those who support Frerotte and Fiedler feel or felt the same way about them.

Interesting post, who told you that AJ looked bad in practice? I was there several times and I do have a different opinion. I reference of Randy McMichael lobbying for Gus Magoo Frerotte, make no history....you need to remember that Gus had more opportunity to play with the first team then AJ. Frerotte was brought here to be the starter, therefore he had all the attention from the day one.

I know it does. It means Frerotte isn't a good starting QB, and it showed tonight. He had plenty of chances to make good plays and he didn't. AJ is still learning the system. These last two games for AJ, he's improving. Gus looks like he's declining.

I disagree. Frerotte knows Linehan. Feeley knows virtually all of the offensive players that matter. That sounds like a wash to me.

The difference is Carey is a 23 year old second year lineman. Feeley is a 28 year old quarterback with less starting experience than some college seniors.

Fair enough.
