Cameron Wake's Contract Status

I think they'r trying to figure out a more limited role this year and see how many sacks he could give us. I believe he'll continue to produce and should return another year

Wow, I'm sure I'm in the minority here but to say that "he needs to retire as a Dolphin" is something I don't really agree with. Now I'm not saying I have anything against him retiring as a Dolphin but to say he has to makes no sense to me. He's been a great player for us and has always worked hard but I believe in making the team as good as possible and if that means he's part of the team then great but if we have better options then I'd move on. Lets see what he does this year before we decided he needs to be here another year. I hate NE but they do it right. They rather get rid of a player a year too early than a year too late.

Fact is that far better players than him didn't finish their careers with the team they started with but.........that's just my opinion.

Danny, similar thoughts. I am a huge fan of Wake, but NO ONE out runs father time. Successful franchises let a player walk a year or two too early rather than let them stay a year or two too late. Miami has been more of the latter. Loyalty is something created by the fans for the most part. Bottom line it's a business, the contract structures and free agency doesn't set up well for loyalty. Wake will go down as one of the best Dolphins players, but bottom line many great players finished careers in different uniforms. It would be best for Miami to let Wake walk after this year. JMO...

He's 36 no need to jump to any conclusion right now, let see how he play's this year.
I'm sure if he still has something in the tank the Dolphins will be interested.

It's not like some team is going to come and steal him

I'm sure they will be interested but at what cost? Assume he gets 6 sacks this year. Do you still extend an offer? This will be a very hard decision unless Wake just continues to perform at a high level.

I don't know that's up to the team, a wild guess would be 2-3 mil as pass rush specialist

I would think his days of making 9 mil a season are over - just as important is how many pressures, sacks are great but pressure's and what happens during the pressures is also important.

Yea the Dolphins and Wake have a fluent relationship. This could get done today or in March . . . Or It could be on Wake at this point. He has earned the right to see this through . . . And you know what if this team underachieves and he wants to take a shot at a title in 2019 somewhere else, He deserves that and would have my fullest support.

He’ll still be an all time great Dolphin.
I agree. I’d root for whatever team he was on just to see him win a Super Bowl. He’s definitely in my top three favorites. Okay, I would hate if he were a Jet, but I’d excuse any others.

Unless he falls off the cliff (doubt it), do what you gotta do and make sure he retires a fin. He's earned it.

Since JT and Zach there hasn't been a better fin. It would be Ricky too but for obvious reasons his status on the list of our greats is a little more complicated.

It'll be obvious if he's done and he'll know. We all will. It's how he plays ... how horizontal he gets. Once he isn't able to use his bread and butter dip and rip move ... it's over. That's what makes him special and without it there isn't a Cameron Wake.

Nor is he the kind of person who would take a dime from a team he couldn't contribute to. How many players could you say that about?

Wake is not the average 36 year old man lets not forget that. There aren't many professional athlete's who can keep up with him when it comes to his training and especially his diet! I would pay give him 2 years 15 and wouldn't be shocked if he outplayed that while still putting up 7+ sack seasons.

If a 36 year old DE racks up 10+ sacks (as he damn well can), then he gets paid like any other 20 something DE who racks up 10+ sacks.

I haven’t seen his production suffer. He’s not 28, but he still cranks it up as though he was.

It's a bummer to watch a player of Wake's stature decline even the slightest but he's being managed properly and still can give QB's an ear ringer. We are fortunate to have had Cam Wake on our team and not be traded. I will miss him as much as Zach and Jason, I will no doubt enjoy how many more seasons he has left.

I hope Wake retires a Dolphin. He belongs in the team's Ring of Honor. Great story, great person, great football player.

If he leaves the team, I hope he wins a ring. Most guys, I don't care what happens when they leave. In Wake's case, I would be rooting for him.
