Camp report day 5 night practice.

Nice to know that Carey did very well against Roth and Bowens. Most teams don't have playmaker RE's like Jason Taylor so Vernon won't have to worry about them. He still did great against JT throughout TC anyways. Can't wait to see Carey in action.

Thanks for the report

-The weren't in full pads tonight.

-Of the QB's Frerotte was clearly better. He was surveying the field and making nice on target passes. Feeley was locking on to a WR and overthrowing the ball way too much. I read, I think it was Ozzy who posted it, that Feeley locks on, so I looked for it tonight and sure enough that's what he did. He doesn't look one way then the other and make a choice like Frerotte, it's almost like before the play started he had already decided where he was throwing the ball.

-On one play Frerotte threw a nice deep ball into triple coverage to Chambers, the ball was right on target and should have been caught. Instead it tipped up a couple times and eventually hit the ground off the fingertips of Chambers.

-Donald Lee had a few bad drops.

-Derrius Thompson dropped an easy one.

-McMichael had some nice catches.

-On the o-line JT beat Carey twice in a row and then Houck inserted Roth to face Carey and Carey handled him easily. When Carey faced Roth and David Bowens tonight he dominated, but when JT was there he had a tougher time of it.

-McKinney was eaten up by Josh Shaw on one play and by Vickerson on another play.

-Some o-lineman took handoffs again, Whitley and Hadnot.

-After one play Saban chewed out Tillman bad.

-Mare was better on FG's tonight. He was hitting from 50.

-Traylor was on the bike tonight.

-Junior didn't practice again but did some drills on his own.

-Zgonina did a nice job blowing up a play and getting into the backfield right as the ball was snapped.

-That's all I can remember now.

I thought Feeley played way better than Gus tonight!! Gus was missing alot of open receivers.. Feeley made a couple of great throws, that displayed his arm strenght. Feeley has a much stronger arm than Gus..

I would expect feely to lock onto to his receivers this soon into a new offensive scheme. Got to let him get comfortable in it before we can expect to know where everyone is going to be. Once that happens he better start looking off the safety or he will be riding the bench...

I don't know what you were watching. Feeley was overthrowing WR's way too much even to the point that he was frustrated and got real upset after a throw.

he's been doing it his entire career, this is not something new!

The locking on thing is just one of the things that QBs without feel do. It is one of the most difficult things to correct. If he hasn't figured it out in five years of practices odds are he's not going to suddenly get it now.

Thanks for the report, though I'm a little confused over who looked better at quarterback now...

Thanks a bunch for the great report. Glad to finally see Zgonina get mentioned. That was the first I've noticed any of the camp reporters say anything about him. Right now we have some good depth at DT, between the vets and the promising youngsters. The absolute most DTs we'll carry is 5 with 4 much more likely. Some of it depends on whether Carter is considered an end or tackle. I expect 9 total DL on the 53 man roster with some guys being versatile enough to be OLB in the 3-4 like Bowens, maybe Roth, and Flemons if he makes the team. I'm interested to see how Saban decides to go with the reserve DL. Will he lean more toward proven veterans or younger guys with an eye toward the future?

BINGO rafael. I have been trying to relay this to people. What you see in Feeley now is what you get!! If someone hasn't changed much in 4 full seasons with 13 starts under their belt then they aren't going to change in training camp of season 5. For some reason people like to make excuses for him though, just like many did for the same type of stuff Fiedler did for 4 years.

Not true. QB's sometimes take time to develop, for whatever reason. Look how long guys like Rich Gannon and Steve Beuerlein were in the league, before having their respective "breakout" seasons and becoming high-quality starters.

Yea exactly, why cant players make changes to better themselves? Just because Feeley has done something for 4 years doesn't mean he cant change it. Thats what coaching is for.

Yeah, and look at the statistics and you'll see Gannon, Beuerlein, Warner and even throw in Trent Green, are overshadowed by an overwhelming number who don't. But you don't remember them because....well, they sucked :D

Humans are creatures of habit. People always throw out the "people can change" card. However, behavior modification is probably the hardest applied action a human being can attempt and very few succeed. people make it seem like it has an overwhelming success rate. Our second term prison members should show that.

You have to look at what can be developed and what can't. Gannon always showed feel, but he had a tendency to take too many risks (for his level of arm strength). For some reason people equate a strong arm with potential. It's one of the least important things. AJ hasn't shown feel. The guys who go on to breakout seasons do.
