Can Anyone tell me why we passed on Rodgers?

forget Smith. should of got kyle Orton. WOW!!! he did good.

Against the guys we had playing out there? I should hope he looked good. I'd be worried if he didn't. He looks like he might end up a decent starter, but nothing special.

im not saying its the same situation, but alot of teams passed on a young qb named danny marino way back in the day....

rodgers would have been a nice pick up, but not at #2. i was hoping saban would end up trading up and taking him in the low 20's, but i guess saban was not impressed w/ rodgers.

Right, so all of a sudden during the combines these coaches and scouts miraculously see something completely different in the film they watch then they did before the combines.

Nice try:goof:

Honestly I think we woulda grabbed one of the corners if Saban knew he was going to lose out on Webster in round 2.

I think u might be right about that.

Brown and Webster
Rolle and Arrington

I do believe he fully intended to get his RB and CB with his first 2 picks. In either order.

Simple, it's called hype. Alex Smith went from 2nd round pick, to late 1st round pick, to mid 1st round pick, then 1 week before the draft 1st pick overall. With this the hype on Aaron Rodgers went down, everyone started saying that Alex Smith was way better and that Rodgers wasn't as good as everyone thought, a week before the draft. Along with that the dolphins had sent a 2nd round pick on Feeley and simply put using a 1st round pick and 2nd round pick on a QB would not be accepted. Also at the time Ricky Williams was still a ? and still is so using a 1st round pick on Ronnie Brown, the most complete back in the draft was needed.

Although I don't remember him ever being slated a 2nd rounder. You are almost dead on accurate with what you saying.

Same thing with Phillip Rivers the year before. Remember, Rivers was supposedd to battle with Losman on who was the projected QB to fall to us. Losman had the advantage before the combines. I think Marino even endorsed Losman over Rivers.

did u see how Rodgers played tonight??? he didnt do toooooooo well, but still has potential. I still stand by my opinion that we shoulda traded our Number 2 pick for #5 and #9 (was it? from Tampa Bay???......or the Cowboys #11 and #20). I mean look, there are DOZENS of good names in the draft for runningback. We coulda taken Aaron Rodgers with the first one, and a guy like David Baas with our 2nd one. If not Aaron Rodgers, then possibly Fabien Washington. Kay Jay Harris has serious potential, along with Darren Sproles, JJ Arrington, and all the other RBs in the draft. Then again, nobody ever knew we were losing Will Poole to an injury.

Maybe Saban was thinking, I'm not going to have a great year so I will pick the best player available who fills a need because there are no good trades on the table. Then wait until next year where there is a better QB class, Leinart & Jacobs, then we would have our young stud QB plus have a 2nd year runningback who knows our system. Emmit made Troy look great, even Mitchell looked good with Barry playing behind him.

I don't understand the point of the post that started this thread. You are using 20/20 hindsight here. Obviously we were not the only team that had questions about him. Further I was unaware he has actually done a darn thing in the NFL during a real NFL game.

I think 20/20 hindsight logic is lazy and ppl should stay away from destorying their brain in that way.

Actually, Marino thought Rivers was the best QB in the draft and wanted us to try to get him.

I think we probably did the right thing by picking a RB at the time. We didn't know how the Ricky thing would play out, and maybe we still don't. I am pretty sure we will do something next offseason to resolve the QB problem, either by drafting one or trading for a young guy like Rivers.

We would have had to give up a lot to do that...think of what Buffalo gave up to move up and get Losman.

A second and a fifth...

it was worth it, we've had the guy for an extra year... the value of a 1st rounder a year early is upgraded to a second and a fifth... there is a chart that it is all based on.

Careful, everyone thought he was a top 5 pick. It was a big surprise he fell so far. Use the pre-draft mentality, not post-draft. People were talkign about Green Bay drafting someone like Frye, not Rodgers.
if matt leinhart were in this last draft, there were many who thought smith wasn't even a top 10.

well if Ronnie proves to be a bust, we can always trade him for a 1st round pick next year, and try to move our way up to get Matt Leinart...im telling ya, Leinart is gonna be the next Tom Brady. I was actually shocked we didnt pickup Shaun McPherson...instead we got Brock Berlin who did impress me in the Bears game, but i doubt will make the team.

Even though I Like Feeley. I feel that Rodgers will be better then any QB coming out next year save Matt Leinhart. That's just my opinion though.

Than you need to watch some film on Omar Jacobs from Bowling Green. It's not being pretentious to start saying that Jacobs just might be the best NFL quarterback prospect in the college football. That includes Mr. Heisman out in L.A. Jacobs has the size, the smarts, and the mobility to soon become a millionaire.

because we took the best player available, and rodgers was no where near the BPA at 2...

I dont get it.

But, what you should of said, which if you watched the game Monday night, "why didnt we grab Kyle Orton in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th rounds?"

Because he lit it up against us, and he dont need no time to adjust to the NFL. But Feeley, the season vet, got outperfromed by a rook, in week 1? Say it aint so........ Keep believeing in the hype machine...... Just like keep believing in the hype machine for Matt "Turd" Leinart come next draft.

You all still dont get the fact, the hype dont mean jack. Rodgers will bust out of the NFL. Just like Rivers and Eli. Sure, its nice to say, the players from your school are awesome, or whatever you route for, but I am a die hard Buckeyes fan, but you aint never going to hear me say "Craig Krenzel needs to start!". Just because he won a NC.

QB's are a very big risk next year's draft. No sure bets anywhere. So, if you need a QB, you go with a guy with the most athletic ability. Omar, Kellen, along those lines.

When you see Aaron, play for more then 5 consecutive starts, let me know. It didnt take Ben that long did it? Rex that long did it? Sure, you'll point to Rex, and say he hasn't proven anything. I say "yet", because of an injury, but you let me here that at the end of the season.

And if he does go down, they got a legit backup now.... Not some POS Craig Krenzel. Which we could of had that backup, easily. But, we got an end, that cant shed, a MLB, that wont be utilized, a crap CB, instead of a talented QB, that could of easily benched what we have on our team. Oh ya, let me know if Darryl Blackstock in the second or third round, would of been a "bad" pick, instead of Channing or Matt. He is in AZ, and will start week 1, and rip it up. See how many times his name gets called compared to Matt and Channing, Sheet, I'll put money that Darryl outperforms both of them combined.

Hype kills, and we did have a bad draft? Any nay sayers now?
