Ricky v. the Field

If Ricky Williams had played uninterrupted football for the last seven years, and not had off-field issues, his chances of Hall induction would still be so remote as to not be worth talking about. Assuming he had 1400 a season for the past three years, and 10 TDs, he'd be standing in line behind: LaDanian Tomlinson, Priest Holmes, Tiki Barber, Shaun Alexander, Curtis Martin, Jerome Bettis, Fred Taylor, Edgerrin James, Marshall Faulk. Be realistic, four of those guys get in, maybe--Tomlinson, Faulk and Martin are sure things. Bettis maybe. If Barber played on for three more years, if Holmes had not been hurt, if Alexander can keep it up. If James had not left Indy, they'd all have their tickets punched before a clean, sober and committed Ricky Williams would have. Considering all the time Fred Taylor has missed, two more years and he's at 12,000 yards and about 70 TDs, that would be better then Ricky's numbers if he had nearly 5,000 more yards then he does today, at a much higher average.

Obviously a player can use drugs and still be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Michael Irvin's induction proves that you can smoke marijuana and use other drugs and it will not necessarily change the voter's opinion of you.

Ricky has a little over 7,000 yards rushing....Thurman Thomas finished with a little over 12,000 yards. Ricky would easily be on the same pace as Thurman had he not missed two seasons (2006 in Canada, and 2004 not playing). Ricky won't be 30 years old until May, 2007....he could play another four or five years if he chooses to do so. Your thoughts?

Edit: Mayne should by Maybe in the poll...can't type.

Keyword is if Ricky chooses to. Whether we become a contender while he's around will be a factor. If we win a Super Bowl with Ricky Williams, he gains a lot of consideration. If he sets a record, likewise. Right now, he's not suitable for the HOF.

If Ricky makes the HOF....then the selection process is nothing but a joke.

Not even close.

Even if he didn't miss any years or walk out on the team, he's only had one great season. ONE. Lots of guys do that and fall way short of the HOF.

I welcome him back and only want to win, but the fact that he's over 30 and splitting time with a younger back will probably preclude him from putting up any special numbers again. He wasn't on pace for the HOF and won't be.

edit: And guys are comparing him to Gale-freakin-Sayers? Go find some footage of that guy. Absolutely dominated his entire career and only stopped because he had to. 20 TD's as a rookie, led the league in rushing twice, and was on the All-NFL team EVERY SINGLE YEAR before the injury. 5 years straight. Ricky is a lot closer to Jamal Lewis that he is Sayers.

Did you add on that he also was a great returner?
Great hands also?
