He would have to put up a bunch of yards. Also, he won't, in opinion, get voted in as a backup running back.

I like Ricky, I hope if/when he comes back he runs wild again.

Obviously a player can use drugs and still be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Michael Irvin's induction proves that you can smoke marijuana and use other drugs and it will not necessarily change the voter's opinion of you.

Ricky has a little over 7,000 yards rushing....Thurman Thomas finished with a little over 12,000 yards. Ricky would easily be on the same pace as Thurman had he not missed two seasons (2006 in Canada, and 2004 not playing). Ricky won't be 30 years old until May, 2007....he could play another four or five years if he chooses to do so. Your thoughts?

Edit: Mayne should by Maybe in the poll...can't type.
this has to be the most ridiculous thread i have ever seen on this site, dude you can't be this naive,,,can you??

Rb's break down to easy. Not only does he not deserve HOF mention, but he most likely wont see 10000 yards

Unless he comes back and rushes for 2000 yards the next two seasons, scores 20+ rushing each he shouldnt even be mentioned in the same breath as the HOF IMO

This cannot be a serious question

There are currently 45 former, or active running backs with more yardage then Ricky Williams. There are at least 50 former, or active running backs with more touchdowns. Had Ricky Williams not sat out two full NFL seasons, if he had produced 1500-yards a season for the last three seasons it is still unlikely he'd be anywhere near the Hall of Fame even if he didn't have drug issues. LaDainian Tomlinson, Curtis Martin, Marshall Faulk, Corey Dillon, Jerome Bettis, Edgerrin James, Fred Taylor, Tiki Barber, etc, would still have comparable numbers. Ricky Williams is Jamal Lewis.

I agree for the most part, but you can't just use numbers to define whether a guy was a HOF player. If you do then Terry Bradshaw, Bob Griese and many others shouldnt be in it. It's more about the impact you make on the game than pure numbers.

Even that said Ricky shouldnt even be mentioned

Why is it ridiculous and naive?....Ricky has more yards rushing than Gale Sayers who is in the Hall of Fame, despite not winning a SB? Too bad you Ricky haters can't look past some things he did off the field.

For me it has nothing to do with off the field....he hasnt done enough on the field.

He struggled his first 3 seasons (mostly due to injury) then had one amazing year for us. Struggled some the next year (his yards per carry were pretty bad) then came back in a backup capacity.

As much as he can do for a team when healthy I just dont think he is a HOF worthy player unless he does something amazing the next two years, because I think thats as long as he will play.

If we trade Ronnie Brown and Ricky wins the next two rushing titles he will surely make the HOF. This is about as likely as Chris Chambers playing up to expectations or Daunte Culpepper returning to his pro bowl form.

This is wrong on so many levels... Chamber/CPep both playing like stars, while pretty darn unlikely, is still *much* more likely than us trading Ronnie and Ricky winning the next two rushing titles. On top of that, if Ricky *did* manage to do that, he still wouldn't even be anywhere close to the HOF. He would have to produce for another 6+ years at a very high level, win a couple of rushing titles, rack up a *lot* more yards, go to the pro bowl several times, maybe break a major rushing record and maybe see a Super Bowl. Then he might have a shot. A shot.

For comparison, let's look at the career of an actual HOF running back. Let's say the guy that got picked yesterday (info from Wikipedia):

Thurman Thomas was the AFC rushing leader in 1990, 1991, and 1993. He was voted to the All-Pro team in 1990 and 1991, was selected to 5 straight Pro Bowls from 1989-1993, and was named NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1991. Currently, he is 12th on the NFL all-time list for most rushing yards in a career. Overall, Thomas finished his 13 seasons with 12,074 rushing yards, 472 receptions for 4,458 yards, and 88 touchdowns (65 rushing and 23 receiving).

Thomas is the only player in NFL history to lead the league in total yards from scrimmage for four consecutive seasons. He is one of only five running backs to have over 400 receptions and 10,000 yards rushing. Walter Payton, Marshall Faulk, Marcus Allen, and Tiki Barber are the other four. Thomas is also one of four running backs to have rushed for over 1,000 yards in 8 consecutive seasons along with Curtis Martin, Barry Sanders and Emmitt Smith.

Thomas also set NFL playoff records with the most career points (126), touchdowns (21), and consecutive playoff games with a touchdown (9). Overall, he rushed for 1,442 yards and caught 76 passes for 672 yards in his 21 postseason games. In a 1989 playoff loss to the Cleveland Browns, Thomas recorded 13 receptions for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns, which was a postseason record for receptions by a running back and tied tight end Kellen Winslow's record for most receptions in a playoff game. He is also the first player ever to score a touchdown in 4 consecutive Super Bowls.

Do you guys think Tiki Barber is a HOF player? Just asking because he retired this year and we are on the subject of RB's

Wow. Just wow. Do some reading on Gale Sayers. He's not in the HOF for his career yardage. Whereas, what the heck else *would* Ricky be in for?

I think Tiki is borderline....some guys who retire early have gotten in like Sayers and Barry Sanders, while some have not. I think Curtis Martin of the Jets should be there, but Tiki I would say no.
