Can Tannehill Lead Miami to a Super Bowl Within 3 Years?

How about we make the playoffs first?

We are definitely better on offense than last year: our OL will be improved; a running back; and while not world beaters we have a talented group of WRs; a TE in Clay who has now a year under his belt and will get better; a new OC and new scheme on offense

What happened last year can not happen again. If Tannehill does not make a huge step forward then I see the Dolphins getting at least QB competition next year. Lazor and Hickey have no investment in Tannehill and they will not let their careers ride on a QB they did not pick.

Next to Philbin Tannehill is playing for his job.

Of course you have to consider that. IF RT does not look like the answer this year, we go back to square #1. On the other hand, IF he does look good, the 3 year window does make sense as the better chance than after a big contract.

That's my point. Even the speculation of a "within 3 years" is one season to early. Because at this point we don't know if he has all the tools as a QB.
If he significantly improves this year I think then we could revisit this discussion.

Need a new Head Coach
a true #1 WR
a top 15 RB
better guards
a top 15 MLB
a top 10 WLB
and a true #2 CB

and they may have a shot. Tannehill is about the 20th best QB in the NFL right now. The key is Brady, Russell, CK all had very good teams around them and didn't have to carry the teams. Tannehill has potential to be in the 12-15 range, but he needs a lot of help to make a super bowl.

won't even get close if he's gonna throw 14.5 picks and fumble 9 times a season

Joe Flacco had an amazing run one year, and outside of that I don't feel that he has been an amazing quarterback.

So is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? I think even a homer would agree it is unlikely.

True. Then again if anyone had suggested the down time for our team lasting this long, I would have thought it impossible.

IMO, no way. I'm not a fan of Tannehill, but I'm also not a hater. I do not see Tannehill as a "take charge" QB who can carry a team like Marino did. Tannehill does not seem like the type to LEAD this team anywhere. (When he's on the bench he just sits here, as if he isn't even interested in what's happening on the field. He's not a leader.) But if they somehow make the playoffs or Super Bowl, it won't be Tannehill leading the team... it will be Tannehill being carried by a good team.

I will leave my comments out of this other than to say if Ryan is still your QB in 3 years it will mean he had a big year this year and will sign a big extension.
This is the closest thing to success we can see right now

if they make the playoffs and actually get a win I will be shocked. I will consider that a big win and Tannehill should get further consideration.

The only way my small minded self knows how to respond here is, "DUH".

It's a team game. All QB's need to be carried by a good/great team. I've never seen a QB win a super bowl without one. Fun fact: all record breaking QB's within the season they broke those records have failed to win the Lombardi. Its the ultimate team sport.
