Can Tannehill Lead Miami to a Super Bowl Within 3 Years?

I see a strong regular season coming this year. We likely lose in the divisional round this year to inexperience at both HC and QB. A situation we should have avoided last year. 2015 SB run.
 
The better, obvious, and more appropriate question is can Ryan Tannehill lead the Dolphins to MULTIPLE Super Bowls in the next 3 seasons. One is pretty much a given.
 
IMO, it is a bit of a ridiculous question. Fans (especially Dolphins fans) put too much emphasis on the QB. The team needs to improve to be considered a serious SB contender. Phrasing the question to put it all on Tannehill is ridiculous. IMO, Marino is the best of all time and HE DOESN'T HAVE A RING!

Teams win SBs, not QBs. The QB needs to be good enough to do his job. The elite QBs can cover up some flaws but all QBs need help. There are some GREAT QBs playing right now. Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, are all likely headed to the HOF. They each have won 1 in careers much longer than Tannehill's so far. To put a 5 year window on a SB and hold the QB primarily responsible is just ignoring the reality of playing in the NFL.

I want Tanehill to be good enough to not have to worry about the QB position for the next 12 years. I have one question for all of you. Would you trade the SB-less career of Dan Marino for 17 years of watching Trent Dilfer if that meant 1 SB win for the Dolphins?

No F'n way.
 
No, not with this head coach. Get some guards, a #1 WR, and some game changing LBs and safeties, and a better running game, and we can have a discussing about super bowls. Right now we should be discussing if the Bills game next week is a must win to keep from going 0-2.

You've got to be kidding. Not only would I trade it I'd give a heck of a lot more than 17 years. The Marino years were an absolute insult, a pantyhose waste.

I can understand younger fans not wanting to accept that, but not anyone who experienced the Dolphin glory years.

Anyway, I do agree with the basic point that a Super Bowl berth is a lot to ask within a short window. I'd say No with virtually any quarterback in a three year span and feel I had the best of it. In our case the talent level after so many Jeff Ireland years does not suggest a Super Bowl on the horizon. That normally requires great players.

Tannehill needs to find the logical range for playoff success in the most relevant categories like yards per attempt and adjusted yards per attempt. Then we can take a realistic swing if our defensive numbers also improve, to the point our Yards Per Pass Attempt Differential is a significant positive, in the +1.0 range or higher.
 
Peyton Manning is arguably the greatest QB To ever play the game combining game smarts with gunslinger abilities. And he has exactly 1 stinking Super Bowl. Going to require a complete team in addition to a complete QB.

You're right. But, I was answering the question "can Tannehill LEAD Miami to a Super Bowl?" and taking it literally to mean can Tannehill himself lead this team to the SB. I know that it's a team sport, and that even a great QB needs a good team to reach the SB. That said, IMO Marino led this team to the playoffs year after year on his arm alone, without a dominant defense or running game. Marino could carry the team, but Tannehill isn't Marino. Tannehill has not shown that he's good enough to carry the team. However, if he can cut down on the mistakes/turnovers and learn how to hit Wallace in stride, then maybe he'll be good enough to HELP this team make it to the Super Bowl.

The question is asked based on info in the OP, with a VG QB having a better chance of getting to a SB before he gets a BIG contract. This allows the team to spend a lot more on surrounding talent, which definitely adds to the team game. In RT's case, that would be 3 more years.

It seems that some answer titles without reading the OP.

The post you responded to is arguably one of the most idiotic posts I've ever read. Thank you for responding because I certainly felt it didn't deserve a response. Dude clearly knows nothing about football if he thinks it's but a team sport
 
True, it's a team game and the team also includes the coaches, and families of the team. If Tannehill is to lead the team to the SB, he needs backing from everyone and a winning culture needs to be instilled.
 
According to Pollian, history says that you need 12 players playing very good to get to the SB. I think he meant once you get to the playoffs but, he did not specify.

I did read the OP. But, I did make the mistake of not explaining that IMO the rest of the OP was moot because I don't think that Philbin/Coyle/Tannehill will be in Miami much longer. Yes, I'm being overly negative here... and I'll continue to do so until this team proves me wrong and starts winning!
