Other teams are already speculating at the possibility of Long. I know the team has health concerns, but if he can stay healthy this year I think they would be foolish not to resign him.
Dolphins announce they may use NFL franchise tag on Long in 2013

Money usually is never the big obstacle when an NFL team has eyes on a key player they need. It's the team that player is leaving. One of the thing that takes some of the drama out of free agency every year is the franchise tag, allowing any team to name a single player their franchise talent. While it sounds nice on paper, the truth is it's an excuse to drive the price for the a player so high he's forced to either hold out or sign the one-year tag contract. That is the reality facing four-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jake Long.

Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall would thrive with Long on the blindside

Many fear that an unreliable offensive line could ruin the chance for a great season, no matter how health Cutler says he is or Marshall says he can mentor his fellow receivers. The one thing missing the minds of fans and even some experts is a proven left tackle. J'Marcus Webb, the current starter, got rated near the bottom of league last season. While he is only 23 and it was his first full season playing the left tackle spot, fans aren't willing to give him another year to figure it out. That is why Long is such a beacon of possibility. Adding his talent to the offensive line would give Chicago not only one of the top talents in the league but someone who won't need blocking help on most of the snaps.

Possible or probable won't matter in 2012 for the Chicago Bears. Jake Long is still the left tackle of the Miami Dolphins and unless there is a major change will stay that way. Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall will have to do without, unless of course their front office works can work some miracles.

I'm not sure how you get other teams are speculating at the possibilty of Long from an article written by some Bears' fan.

I think the Dolphins have already said they will place the franchise tag on Long if an extension cannot be be agreed upon. Who knows, maybe someone will still try to acquire a franchise tagged Long and give up two first round draft picks for him. Naw...I doubt it.

I would trade long for the right price as well. I would want more than a first and a 3rd tho.

I didn't think the Bears would get Marshall from us, so you can never say never. However, Long is the best in the league at his position, and someone we need to keep around. He is a high character person and is never a distraction. Yes he has dealt with some injuries the last couple of seasons, but he has still played at a dominating level.

If the Bears or any other team wants him in 2012 or even in 2013(Dolphins will either re-sign him or franchise him), it probably will take two 1st round picks. Miami is never just going to let Long walk into free agency.

Jake Long isnt going anywhere. We all know it. The media knows it. The fans know it. Jeff Ireland knows it. Jake Long knows it. What's the point really?

Gather.com is like a Bleacher Report for generic news. I wouldnt take much stock in this. Just some random guy's opinion.

Look at the author's profile. All this articles are linkbait about some team trying to lure a superstar.

Should the Colts sign LeGarette Blount?

Should the Broncos sign Plaxico or Braylon Edwards?

As you can see, this is just a nonsense, invented article to get more links to the site. The OP fell for it.

For once Miami is in position to leverage a high profile player. Years past Miami wouldn't have had the luxury of using the franchise tag on Long because chances were good that some other player of greater need and higher pay would be up for a new contract as well. Long will be the highest priority next off season assuming he isn't extended this season and if you franchise him you end up getting a king's ransom if a team wants to even entertain the notion of a trade.

Either way it is a win for Miami in this case and it's about damn time to be honest. I want the guy to retire a Dolphin but if he cannot I damn sure want to gut some other team if they want him.

Do the Bears think that Ireland fell off a turnip truck just because they more or less "stole" Marshall?

Big difference: Marshall had a cloud over his head, dropped enough RZ and EZ TDs that we might have been playing for a WC in game 16 instead of just as the jest spoiler otherwise, and our new HC wanted nothing to do with him. The FO was dealing from a position of weakness - and I still would rather have not make the trade and taken my chances with this unguided missile and any blowback now or in the future he'd be attracting.

Long is one of the best at perhaps the 2nd most important position. Playing hurt this season and much of the previous one, sure there were some fissures, but by and large he proved that 60% of a healthy Jake Long is better than the overwhelming majority of other league LTs at full strength!

If they think they can get him for less than a first and more, they're delusional. It's not like we couldn't keep franchising our best player if it kept coming to that.

You're right.... maybe we should create a "Chinese Menu" for writing stories for this guy. Column A for Teams with needs, Column B for all possible All-Pros that could fill the need. We could generate two months of stories in about 10 minutes.

"Journalism" has really taken a hit now that it is so cheap and easy to post on the internet.

Sign him trade him it's all good for miami, but i hope we sign him............
