Can the Chicago Bears Pry Jake Long From Miami Dolphins?

and no you don't take ONLY a mid 1st round pick for him... You don't get elite LT in the middle of the first round unless you get very lucky. How quickly people forget how starved we were for a solid LT for so long (pun) till Jake came around... Now that we have him, you're willing to let him go for a mid 1st rounder?

We weren't really that starved for an elite LT. You don't need an Elite LT in today's NFL.

And the fact that you scoff at the notion that Jason Peters is comparable to Jake Long somewhat discredits your opinion to be honest because, if anything, Peters has been better than Jake Long the past two years, on average. He was the best tackle in the NFL in 2011 (Peters). Long wasn't even top 10.

Before you make any excuse as to why he wasn't, remember, it's simply an excuse, and the fact remains. Long wasn't top 10

as for jason peter and a 1st and a 4th peter was a fine prospect but he was still coming into his own when the bills traded him...and heck it took him a little while to get his legs and body right in philly before in 2011 he was the best left tackle in the game...i think as consistent as jake has been and as highly rated as he is around the league that he pulls more than a 1st and 4th round return...i doubt 2 1st would be in play but a 1st and a 3rd especially for a team who feels they are blindside qb protection away like maybe a bears etc would be more than willing to make that deal provided they work out a long term extension

the problem with that though is your getting mid to late round return on both those picks...only way i see longs value going in the toilet is if he were to get seriously hurt again in 2012 and miss significant time...injuries are starting to become a concern with him

He was already a Pro Bowler. He had missed a few games as OLers are likely to do, but he wasn't seriously injured while playing OT until this past off season (Achilles). He was po'd because the Bills FO refused to renegotiate his contract even though he was easily the lowest paid regular starting LT in the league. In 2008, the Bills paid him $3 million while Arizona paid Mike Gandy, the guy Peters put on the bench, $5 million, and Gandy was never, ever more than a journeyman.
 
I'm sure someone would sell the farm for Big Jake if we dangled him.
Personally I think he always been fairly over rated.
If the opportunity was there I would certainly consider moving him.
 
To be honest after the way Long looked last year I would trade him in a heartbeat for a first round pick. The guy looked terrible last year! He is definitely not worth the franchise tag! I remember watching one game against Atlanta where he gave up 2 sacks right at the beginning of the game! I hope he has a better year this year then had had last year.
 
People Jake is hands down the best tackle in football.He is team leader,and a class act.Why trade him and create another huge hole in our o line?Senseless

Really Terrible? I suppose you think he was on the same level as Columbo don't you? Or perhaps you thought columbo looked and played better than J.L last season!

Jake has all the talent in the world, but I have faith that Ireland could more than fill the void left by Long. Martin won't be a Long type LT (top 3 in the league) but we will have health on our side, and you don't need an absolute stud at the LT position. I'd take "very good" play from the entire O-line versus an average of "good" play along the whole line with an elite LT.

Look at the Jason Peters trade and you have yourself a very similar situation. Top tier LT who wants to be paid a massive contract both around the age of 26/27 when they would be traded. 1st and 4th for Jake Long I would take immediately.
