If this team gives Ricky 30 plus carries I think it can beat anybody.

That includes the Colts, Titans, Chiefs, etc.

The problem for this team is that it is designed to do one thing and for some reason the Coaches bought into this notion that they must complete the long ball to win. That just isnt the case.

Im not saying dont take your shots, but it should not be an emphasis of this team. We are not the 1999 Rams. We are built like the Patriots two years ago or the Ravens. Neither Offense was impressive but they have rings.

Defense and Running the ball come hell or high water should be the focus every week. No exceptions. It will look ugly but it is the best chance we have.

An efficient Offense is all that is needed. Field Goals are acceptible. We dont have to go for broke. We dont need to say, "OK we are going to make it a point to go deep when everyone knows we cant."

Utilize the talent we have and make the best of it, even if it looks ugly.

The Ravens looked ugly in 2000 but they got a ring. That is the blueprint we should follow.

Ummm no. The reason why we did not give that many touches in the game against the Titans and Colts was because we were behind. I mean it's really simple. You don't run when you are losing.

They didnt score a 21 point touchdown. They got them one at a time in Tennessee. I was there and we seemed pass happy.

We were down by two points at the half to Indy and Ricky got two carries in the second half. Simply unacceptible.

Slow boring football is the only way it can work for this team. Hell run it and run it and run it even if you are 14 points down such as in Tenn.
We obviously cant do it if we are down 14 going into the 4th quarter, but that Tenn. game was still manageable after the 1st quarter.

13 carries and we gave up two first round draft picks for Ricky. THat is a freaking joke. Take all the talent on Offense and add it up and it doesnt compare to Rickys.

The game was out of reach by the second half. You cannot run and catch up. The only time we ran was when we were down by 7 in the early part of the game. No sane team, even the Ravens passed when they were 14 down and more. Don't be ridiculous, we run Ricky to run out the clock.

It's NOT really that simple. Most people look at stats and single out certain ones for proving whatever point they want. The win percentage for teams that run the ball 30 times is one of the most used, and most misleading stats IMO.

You have to look at WHY a team is either ABLE TO or NOT ABLE TO get those 30 carries.

A) You need to be able to have the ball for a considerable amount of time. This means the defense needs to get the other team off the field.
B) You need to be executing in the running game. You would be an idiot to keep running the ball on every down if the RB is constantly being stuffed for 1 yard or less. And if you did... you would lose the Time of position battle which goes back to point A.
C) You need to convert third downs. If your team keeps punting the ball, you again, can't control the clock, and back to point A won't be able to give the back those 30 carries.

Our team has struggled in all of these areas the last few weeks, thus the drop in carries for Ricky. But, 30-carries doesn't equal a magical win. It's the quality play in many phases that= 30 carries. Although against the Ravens it is just that the Ravens played worse than us, not that we played that great.

The Tenn. game was out of control in the second half, but the Indy game was far from out of control. Yet Ricky got two carries.

At Tenn. we were determined to throw. In the 1st quarter we were only down even points and we threw on 3rd and 1. Result, Incomplete and a Punt.

3rd and 1 and we throw. Sorry, but that is not what you do when you have Ricky.

And surely you dont think we got Ricky and got rid of 2 first round draft picks so that he could run out the clock. We got him because he is awesome and can make big plays. All game long not just the 4th quarter.

All the NFL teams are trying to stop Rickey and the run. We need to pass better. When were loseing by more then 10 points and our D is leaking like it did against the Titans, we need to throw the ball. I say we compromise and throw it to Rickey and let him run with it.
:D

The last game against the Pats last season, Ricky had 31 carries for 185yds in a loss. Also, though not 30 carries, he had 27 for 228yds against the Bills in a 17 point loss against the Bills. Just because he gets the carries and puts up the yardage, that doesn't mean automatic win.

If Ricky is only getting 2 point something per carry, then yes, we are quite beatable.

I still think Ricky is a bit wore down right now. It seems Minor is a lot more fresh and is getting (for the most part-not always) better runs. I say that since we are not doing well passing we should rotate Travis and Ricky more. Thus keeping both with fresh legs.

Every running back needs to be relieved for a few plays here and there. We even saw that with Jamal Lewis and their backup!?

Ag any team that can put points on the board - unlike the ravens - you want to throw the ball most of the time if they are putting 8 men in the box. If you run Ricky ag 8 men fronts - you are expecting 7 guys to block 8 which is tough w/o a great OL. While it may seem like running Ricky often is the best plan of attack to win; it is really the best plan of attack to keep the game shorter and make it easier for our D. As long as our D hold up their end and keeps the game close, we can play conservative and run RW ag 8 guys but we s/b able to slip in that easy fly pattern ag 1-1 coverage and that is where we have failed miserably

Keep in mind, the defenses are gearing up to stop the run now...

Right.

There is a reason where we passed a lot against Indy: they dared us to pass on them.

No way we would have run on them. They played 8-9 men in the box all game long.

its not just that, if they shut ricky down the first 10 times and their good offense is using the clock all day and scoring TD's. ricky wont get teh chance to get 30 touches cus we wont have the time to do it when you have 8 guys at the line.

Was that 2000 Ravens team ever even behind by 14 points? The Dolphins game was close to that when we beat them 19-6; I guess I don't remember how the scoring went in that game. But most games their opponents didn't even score 14 points. Heck, most of the time their opponents had trouble scoring double digits.
