Chad Henne is looking to re-sign with Dolphins

Three games wasn't much of a season..

I agree, but coupled with the two prior years, and the fact that he lost six straight games (dating back to last season) prior to his season ending injury, he was't looking too good IMO.

Glad to hear Henne loves it here. Bet he works his a$$ off in the offseason and comes in to fight for a job. Hope he gets one, even a backup job. I love to be proven wrong when I write a player off.

Think about it. We draft a rook, who is developed comfortably, and Henne and Moore fight like rabid dogs for the job, both lighting up the scoreboard in the preseason. Quarterback controversy ensues. This board goes down under the hysterical load. Someone's quarterback gets hurt in the third preseason game and they come offering draft picks for one of them...

Even if henne threw for 6 tds in all preseason games I still wouldnt want him starting...

Why would we re-sign Henne when we already have an incumbent who is obviously better? It seems the Dolphins #1 priority is upgrading from him, so going backwards would make me seriously contemplate my being a fan (just like every game Henne started the last two years).

Excellent point, WHY would they go BACKWARDS?!!! Moore was able to deliver long passes , show touch and accuracy that i never saw from Henne on a consistent basis. I think there is something to build on with Moore, with Henne, not so much.

Having Henne as a 3rd QB is counter-productive. Depending on the other two, you want either a veteran who can serve a mentor role to a younger guy above him or a younger developmental prospect just trying to learn the system in hopes of contributing one day. Having a veteran who would possibly be a distraction or a source of controversy just isn't the best roster use.

If we pick up Peyton or Flynn I'd like our third to be a young guy. If we end up with an early developmental prospect behind Moore I'd like to see a guy with lots of experience there to provide some steadiness and insurance. In none of those scenarios do we need Chad Henne.

Please, don't have this player anywhere near our team.

He's like a black cloud. Get him away please. Fresh start for the Dolphins. Out with the old regimes garbage.

Who knows, with Philben and a competent coaching staff maybe he could be salvaged. I'm not overly optimistic though. I could see giving him a short term deal and then trading him to someone who loses a QB to injury in preseason.

I always prayed the lights would magically turn on for him, but let's get real. He will never be a Franchise QB in the NFL!!! You have to be good in the Redzone and in the 2 min Offense. Henne is in the bottom of the league in both categories. He had his shot and I wish him well. Time to move forward Dolphins, not backwards!!!

This may be true for Henne the past few years, but he actually started to look better this year before he was injured. The above also describes Moore. Sure, Moore looked "flashier" with some big pass plays between the 20s, but our red zone production was still mostly field goals again. Henne threw more INTs, but Moore fumbled quite a few making it even. Moore was not as good in the pocket as Henne when the protection started breaking down. Moore would scamper around and hold the ball too long; he'd either make a nice pass, take a sack, fumble, or run for a few yards. Henne made a major improvement this year by throwing less INTs and running for 1st downs when there was an opening. Henne is pretty big, and can take a hit and still gain yards running. Moore can't take those hits without fumbling.

We don't know if Henne improved his "intangibles" because of the injury. But, Moore is also lacking in that department. He may look like he's taking charge and leading the team to success, but when crunch time comes and they NEED to score or get a 1st down Moore usually throws incomplete. He is not very good when the game is on the line, which makes him nothing more than a back-up. He averages only about two hundred and some passing yards per game. When you consider that he has a lot of completions over 20-25 yards, something seems amiss when he can't throw for 300 yards in a single game.

I would let Henne and Moore compete, and would not be surprised if Henne ends up being the better QB. Hopefully though, we'll sign/draft a franchise QB and they'll be competing for a back-up role.

Its nice to finally be in a situation where we have no room for Henne going into training camp this upcoming season.

...I knew this would be a popular thread, though. :chuckle:
