Chad Johnson: "I don't do media anymore"

34 years old and afraid to catch a ball over the middle. That's what I saw on hard knocks.

Actually it came to mind as well looking at the show too. Gerrard also mentioned it during the show.

Then again, it is training camp, and you don't want to take any hits in practice.

Lets see what happens game time.

I don't know what show the naysayers were watching, but Chad had the hands down sickest catch ever early on in the program. His feet are impossibly fast and his cuts are textbook. And so now we wait to see what all of this translates to in games that matter. So I, for one, will reserve my football judgement on Chad till the end of the first week of the regular season.

As to the public persona, I DETEST the hypocrisy that plays out when athletes who give the media exactly what they NEED, good copy and good soundbites, get roasted over the coals for not saying the "right" thing. Ditto for the NFL office. I wish I could look at jersey sales statistics. I bet my 401K that they spiked everytime sportscenter ran one of his antics fifty times leading up to a show.

Dropping f-bombs all over the place is NOT what the game needs. He chose to be a professional football player. All pro athletes have a clause that insists on behaving a certain way. Any employee of any company can be fired for conduct detrimental to the values of that company.

You can't just walk around doing whatever you want whenever you want.

Chad showed a lack of class. He showed contempt for the organization, the NFL, and his responsibility as being a person in the public eye. His little suck attack in not talking to the media clearly shows that he understands that in order to enjoy the privilege of playing professional sports.

Its a privilege. Not a RIGHT.

Chad being Chad...he knows the cameras are running...If he produces and we win, its all fun and games.

How did he do that, exactly? Because he dropped a couple of F bombs?

If you take out the times he said **** and kept the message the exact same, was there anything wrong with what he said? Im trying to single out your argument, here.

I totally disagree with your first point. What the game, and the world, needs is a sense of humor. He is a professional football player. Nobody can argue against his work ethic and professionalism. Dude goes hard, stays in shape in the offseason, and like he said in the presser, got it done for a decade. He dropped F-bombs and the media laughed. Why? Because it was legitimately funny.

Can't disagree with your second point. That is why Philbin spoke to him and that is why Ocho shut down the pressers. I suspect that he rather not do them than offer brainless, canned responses. So, the organization wins there and the world just got a lot less interesting.

Lack of class...cause he curses into a microphone and kids about going into porn? Agree to disagree there too. Contempt for the organization? C'mon. You think he doesn't know what he's doing when he changes his twitter avatar to a picture of himself in an aqua jersey? He is paying his own salary and throwing the organization a major bone. And your final point is a little bit naive. Privilege? When you are a 6 5 and can fly, it is your birthright. Ask Les Brown.

You can defend him all you want. Philbin, the organization obviously had a conversation with him. Now he's shutting up. Which only proves my point. Dropping f- bombs wasn't funny to me. And no it want about porn i never mentioned that so dont put words in my mouth. Its the cussing. I dont care who anyone works for, you go on TV and start with profanity, you likely won't have a job, why should athletes have a separate set of rules than the rest of us? They aren't above reality. Just made him look ignorant and lacking vocabulary. He is NOT paying his own salary. Mr. Ross is. He looked like an attention whore. We're throwing him the bone

So tell me, Chad wants to be great... Do you think if Jerry Rice talked like that people think of him as the greatest? When Chad had a opportunity to do some real taking on the football field, with possibly the greatest QB of all time, he didn't say much. So now he thinks being a sideshow is going to lead to being a better receiver? C'mon.

And yes. Playing pro sports, and my most accounts, a kids game, is a privilege. It's not his birthright. Naive? It's naive to think that being a football player makes you entitled.

He's JUST. A football player. And it's JUST FOOTBALL.

P.s. the capitals are to accentuate points. I'm typing on my iPad. I'm not yelling ;)

Then why not say it without the f-bombs? Your point is?

THANK YOU!!! I have never experienced such a weak male fan base in football before! I will find out soon if the stadium will be full of such weak men. I hope the guys on this board, are not the actually fans at the games. if so no wonder the team has been a joke. All the crying and whining like used up bitches. I'm actually shocked. At first I thought maybe this was just some sort of parody.....like Men in tights just making fun of football culture, but now I think this is really how some of these guy are. I mean man up. If you are joking, put a smiley face or something. I'm trying not to judge the Miami organization by the fans they have, but sometimes it is an reflection of what is accepted. From the outside looking in, being new to this organization..wow!

OK smart guy, picture this scenario in your mind if you can...

Picture a ten year old kid who just LOVES Chad, I mean he loves EVERYTHING about him. He pesters his parents for WEEKS to get them to fork over $100 on a Chad Johnson Dolphins jersey.

He somehow manages to convince his parents to let him watch Hard Knocks because, you know, 'Chad' will be there & he is just the COOLEST player around.

They tune in, and guesss what the kid hears & sees?:crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy:

Dumbass. ;)

He dropped more than a couple f-bombs and curse words. Not only that, but honestly much of his humor was just immature babble. One can still be funny without having to be juvenile all the time. He's got a talent for being amusing, but he needs to grow up and stop "putting on" for the cameras. Be natural and show some professionalism.

Chad needs to spend more time with Reggie Bush & maybe some of Reggie's smarts and class will rub off on him. :ponder::)

Lol, you can not be for real. Hard Knocks is on HBO dumb ass parents should have thought about that. Kid is ten, should have his little ass in bed by the time hard knocks comes on. Kids parents so stupid I'm sure the kid hears worse at home. There were lots of f bombs and other curse words said by coaches and players.
Tell your stupid kid to watch Chad on Sundays, be a better parent and you will be your kids role model, not some guy they don't know who plays a kids game.

And you proved exactly what I said, weak male fan base. This has got to be some sort of joke and I'm falling right into it!

Parenting FAIL IMO.

Parents need to be a better role model for their kids rather than letting athletes be role models for them.

Athletes don't know you personally. They can't live up to your standards when they don't know you personally.

I'd never let my kids worship some gutterball athlete who behaves that way as an adult. Mindless.

It's ok to love athletes and root for them etc., but don't let them become idols of your children. Kids deserve better than that. Kids deserve role models who can be there for them and influence them in everyday life.

Wow.................... We should cut him because he cussed at a media presser??

I didn't know this was New England :bobdole:

You would be freaking thankful if Bellicheck ran this team. We'd have 3 championships in the past 10 years ALONE, while reaching 2 other superbowls within the past 5 seasons. The Dolphins haven't sniffed a Super bowl appearance in 30 years and haven't won a super bowl in 40 years.

We need discipline and accountability if we ever want to win again. New England does it the right way. We have not.

Think before you type.

Your premise is flawed, smart guy. Its the fault of the parents who let their 10 year old watch that show.
...Remind me NEVER to ask you to Baby Sit.

Philbin made a point of talking to Chad about it, so its not like he was just allowed to get away with it and there is no discipline. We just can't afford to be as picky as the New England Patriots. We already traded B Marsh for being a d-bag both on AND off the field. You would suggest that we hamstring our QBs (who, by the way, are not Tom Brady) even more because Chad dropped a few F-Bombs in a press conference?

Think before you condescend.
