Chris McCain- #1 in Preseason

Can he replace Wheeler or Ellerbe?

He has played 71 snaps on the strong side (Wheeler), and 26 snaps on the weak side (Ellerbe). I believe he is best suited to play on the strong side based on his showing vs the run.

I am really excited about McCain and the big plays that change games. He looks like a budding star and play maker. The sooner he replaces Wheeler or Ellerbee the better.

He does look like a game changer in the making. Hope it's this year instead of next. With Wake and Grimes, it would give us the big 3 we need.

He appears to be Dion Jordan without the high price tag. Good they realize his potential at LB and don't try to make him something else.
I expect to see him on the field in passing situations probably playing Dion's role until he gets back so he'll get a chance to have some early success.

Assuming that he excels in Dion's role and also playing some LB, how will they take him off the field when Dion returns?
My guess is they will not and Dion Jordan will find himself getting little playing time or maybe playing special teams? Nor so great for a #3 pick. Dam that Ireland.
Top 10 picks should be for guys that are proven high production and high rep college players that are cant miss NFL starters. Like a boss.

Yeah, he is a "take no prisoners" kind of player, which we really can use. His cover skills are not great from what I have seen but, don't care much if he can do what he has done vs top NFL competition.

Agree - coverage needs work, but that can be coached - at least to put in him the correct position, after that is up to him, but I get a sense from interviews and seeing his progress during preseason that he's got that hunger level that will drive him.

I see WILL backer as being his best spot - potentially because I still want to see Jordan at SAM, and combine them with Tripp in the Middle would make a pretty funky 43 LB corps for the modern day pass game.

I would hope he would play where his natural playing ability, aggression and instincts would be put to greatest benefit. I would not factor how Jordan may or may not fit into the equation.

Forgetting Misi? No reason to replace him.

Ireland pulled the trigger on the trade , but it was my underatanding that Jordan was a favorite of the coaching staff going into the draft and he was on the must have wish list. So philbin and staff loaded that gun Ireland pulled the trigger.

If that is the case, then they all deserve some criticism. It is easy to heap the blame on Ireland. He deserves a dump truck full.
I hope he lights it up when he returns from suspension. Right now, I am feeling pessimistic about him.
During preseason, after the announcing of the suspension, I would have expected him to be a man out to show that he will be a force.
Apart from a small handful of plays, I didn't see anything special about him.
Having McCaim, who no one expected anything, jump out and seize some attention, really gives me hope that there will be other guys that step up.
In my mind, it just further highlights that there is no fire in the belly of Dion Jordan.

If they let Dion Jordan play LB he might be showing what McCain has been showing. Jordan is being pigeonholed into a DE when he should be using his athletic gifts at LB

He should be starting.

If he doesn't, it may just mean that he needs time to learn to recognize things, once offenses start scheming. This proves he is physically able to compete at this level, so it may just be a question of getting some learning under his belt. We sure can use his help.

Granted its against scrubs but McCain is beasting as both an OLB and DE. Are you saying Jordan never got the same opportunity to show what he was truly capable of at both positions?

Reminds me of Bryan Cox his rookie yr. He opened a lot eyes during preseason too.
