Chris Perkins: Step by Step guide to fixing Fins Culture

What exactly didn't he "pass"? The players were even taking it upon themselves to go out and put in extra time practicing on their own after the OTA was concluded, installing what they were taught, when coaches are not allowed to be out there per the rules of the CBA. Multiple players mentioned it as being a change from years past. Not ball-busting here, I'm just confused at what you are specifically saying McDaniel did or did not do that you wanted to hear about him doing.
Just that he chose to schedule 6/10 OTA. Everything else you said is great and a step in the right direction but I want everything that it’s in our control to be maximized and by not scheduling 10/10 I felt like he didn’t maximize it. I know it’s a small thing in the long run but I feel he needs to set the tone better. I think it’s great that the players are wanting to do it in on their own and stay late unlike what dj saw in his camp reports last year.

so "well run" teams that get "frustrated and angry" that they didn't advance in the playoffs don't try to retain their best players and re-sign them if they can?

if the dolphins lose in the playoffs and then sign players to new contracts, it somehow means we value stats and rankings over winning in the playoffs?

wtf perk? you on crack?
Agree with what you are saying, but I think he’s specifically referring to signing Tua to the extension without making him play out the year which he was against.

They may well have utilized their allotted 10 hours in the 6 OTA's they did? Let's see what happens, if there is a cultural movement for the better here. Players and coaches have to hold everybody accountable for winning here.

if he had said that, i probably would have disagreed and not commented. but he said:

"When the Dolphins made back-to-back early-round playoff exits they handed out contract extensions.

The contract extensions awarded by Grier and McDaniel in 2024 proved the Dolphins value statistical achievements such as having the league’s No. 1 offense OR quarterback Tua Tagovailoa leading the league in passer rating over big-picture achievements such as winning a playoff game."

he used Tua as one example of multiple signings that show we value statistical achievements over winning in the playoffs.

what a load of horsesh1t.

I’m starting to see the players hold themselves accountable and I hope the coaches follow suit and do a better job of it. I’m cautiously optimistic.

Perkins doesn’t paint a picture of accountability in the locker room from the coaching staff though

Yea he wants to say the Tua signing by name but lumps it in with the rest to avoid controversy in the locker room and direct conflict with Tua. At least that’s how I’m reading it

If this is such a big deal why aren't fans analyzing the "practice habits" of the best teams and doing a comparison so we can really have a discussion about what steps need to be taken?

Until we can definitely say what Miami isn't doing compared with the best...we're just talking.

The practices seem to work fine for a lot of the players. My guess is that the culture doesn't exist to force some of the lesser players to put their best foot forward and to keep the less-loyal guys in line.

That culture has a lot to do with simply winning.
Results are all that matters. That's it. Nothing else matters. What they have done obviously doesn't work.

Honestly, if Chris Grier just changed ONE thing, we’d probably be okay: not bet against himself and sign Tua 1yr early for no reason.

If he could change two things, it’s not getting lazy with the rebuild and adding Tyreke Hill.

Maybe the third thing would be Ramsay.

As much as I dislike CG and absolutely want him and his poor style of team building… if he tweaked just a couple things we would be in a waaaaaaaaaaaay better position.

He’s made a lot of good and bad moves and it all washes out… but the Tua extension 1 year too early was REALLY BAD. We could have kept him for half the money if he played on his 5th year and we extended him now. Tua had no leverage and didn’t give a discount and CG bet against himself because Tua sat out an OTA or two. Sack up dude.

The Ramsay extension and current situation though, feels like… I don’t know, he’s just a soft person and not a good leader? I don’t know any way else to figure it out.

This is a typical Perkins article for me, devoid of any valuable analysis.

The front office values stats over wins? No, they banked on the stats leading to more wins. Probably in line with a lot of analytics. They haven't been able to to put up those stats consistently or when it matters. You could write a very nuanced and compelling article analyzing why... but he didn't.

He prefers Flores' style to McDaniel's? Cool, I can respect that, but neither of them won anything of note. And outside of the amoeba business on D being easy to cheer for, Flores had us begging for any semblance of competence on the other side of the ball. For all McDaniel's faults, he got the offense going while bringing in Fangio and Weaver.

You can't write an article about this teams failures without talking about allocating stupid money to the wrong positions, trading multiple picks for expensive veterans, free agency fool's gold, settling at backup QB, or not addressing the trenches early and often. No, that can't be it. The solution must be to question the toughness of giants who make a living throwing their bodies at other giants.

How the hell would he know? Perk hasn't been in the locker room since December or January. Totally different team now, not sure how he can draw any conclusions on the 2025 team based on a couple quick peeks at some OTA's and a few questions for a handful of players and coaches at media availabilities. He's selling doom and gloom, he said so himself on Poupart's podcast earlier this year, he knows it drives the clicks.

Yea but it’s a lot of the same coaching staff so he’s tying it into that. Not saying he’s right.

The players are starting to show up early and stay late and do the stuff we wanted last year out of them and they weren’t admittedly doing (Tyreek etc) and it was obvious on the field like DJ saw in camp. Need the coaches to step up as well, and not saying they haven’t, but I’m still waiting to see how he runs training camp
