clayton: dolphins out of rg3 race due to....

Do the Dolphins still have the same medical staff that recommended Culpepper over Brees? I'd rather sign Flynn and draft a pass rusher like Ingram at #8. Passing on JPP by trading back and getting Odrick and Misi was a huge mistake that cannot be made again.

Just think how depleted this team will be in two to three years(about the time RG3 is ready to shine)if we trade away all those draft picks just to get him. We will have a top QB(MAYBE)but no more Marshall, Bush and others...with third and fourth round talent replacing them. If I were running things in St. Louis, I would draft RG3 and trade Bradford for whatever you can get.

Hey John Clayton!!! your full of sheet! St louis has to trade this pick by next week or two, Flynn and MAnning screw the whole thing up! good luck! Im calling your media shout up BS! I hate ESPN!

What is he "full of sheet" about? He says Miami is out of it due to the cost (which is very steap) and you argue that STL has to trade the pick in the next week or 2 (which is just your opinion). The cost is way too high for RG3 and i'm glad Miami isn't in the running especially since there's other options that don't involve Miami giving up 3 or 4 premium draft picks.

same old dolphins

you give up all it takes to get a qb. However, this front office seems to think you could win with defense and a line. I laugh at them. Maybe get lucky for a year like we did with Pennington, but the only way to win long term in the NFL is with a top flight qb. Give up every pick in the next 2 drafts for a talent like RG3, its worth it.

and here is the thing. Filling other holes in fa are a lot cheaper and a lot easier than filling qb in free agency. Unless the front office misses on every o lineman they sign like ours seem to do of course.

Close your eyes and start picturing RG3 in a Browns' jersey cause that's what's gonna happen, while STL still gets their choice of Kalil or Blackmon and also another first round talent @the 22nd pick... among more. No matter what the Fins or Washington can ante up, with either option there's no guarantee that either Kalil or Blackmon will be there for StL when they pick.

Umm no!

I don't think Kalil will be there for them with either pick. I think he's going #3 to Minnesota. I think RG3 ends up in Washington. Unless Cleveland is playing a good hand of poker, they haven't seemed that overly interested in RG3. I think if Miami does indeed get Manning, Cleveland will sign Flynn leaving Washignton the heavy favorite to land RG3. Plus, if it's Blackmon that STL is after i'm betting he'd still be available at #6.

no. we need to keep all our future picks so we can draft Merling, White, Misi, Smith, Turner and Henne versions 2.0

i will be the first too admit, Smith can be frustrating at times during a game, but for the most part he has been a solid #2 CB since he was drafted, starting all 16 games as a rookie, and lets remember he is a converted WR at 6'3 playing CB, like him or not his size and long arms are an advantage, also i am not making excuses for him but if he catches even half the interceptions he dropped in 2010 he may have been a Pro Bowl CB

S.Smith is in the last year of his rookie deal and making a little over 500 grand, this is his year to prove himself and earn his first big contract

Here are my thoughts on our QB situation:
If Philbin thinks Flynn is all that, then you go and get him. If Joe doesn't, then avoid him at all costs. You can use him as a smokescreen if you, but our head coach has had the best opportunity to evaluate him and you have to trust him.
If you are not going for Flynn, then explore Manning, Moore as your second and draft Tannehill in the first or someone else in the second for the future. Luck is definitely out of reach. RGIII is too expensive if the rumored cost is true. He is too much of an unproven commodity to give up that much for him. If St. Louis is desperate, make a decent offer and put a deadline on it. If they reject it, move on. I don't think RGIII has "it", but I am more than willing to be proven wrong. You have to take some risks: either do it with Manning, Flynn, RGIII or Tannehill.

If this is true it will backfire on Miami. Too soon to make a decision either way.

its too soon to make a decision either way.....but......its not too soon to say it will backfire on Miami? Interesting.....

Just because you don't draft RGIII doesn't mean you still can not take a shot at a QB out of round 1 and that still leaves you room to bring in Manning or Flynn.

If we are out of the race because it would cost us too much but we have a backup plan with manning or flynn then im happy. But if we are out bc of cost and we dont get either then im convinced this regime has zero balls.
