Clayton on Couch

If Couch signs - it will be for the minimum as he is coming off of serious arm injuries and hasn't played in a while. IMHO - he is worth a low end contract based on potential.

Simon is going to require big money, or serious creativity. Either way - he immediately improves the entire D.

Hope we get them both.

This D is good with or without Simon. I know some of you are down on this team and think that any player from another team is better than what we have now
But, that is just not true. Simon would be part of a rotation. He is not head and shoulders above our current DT's. In fact, as a run stuffer he is not as good as Traylor or a healthy Chester.

I would perfer to have Couch over Rosenfels. I think that the reason why Couch played sooooooo bad with the Browns was because of bad talent around him and bad coaching. I am not saying that he will do good here, i am just saying that he should have another chance to play.

Actually, at least some of the reason was his injury.

I think he is head and shoulders above anyone on the roster at DT, plus he's younger. If the team had the cap space to sign him, I'd be for it, but I doubt they can get it.

The herald had an article saying that he (Couch) has been following the dolphins all pre season, he lives in ft lauderdale, he likes Linehan's system, and his agent was saying that Tim would be a perfect fit for the Phins. Also in the article it was stated that he was trowing 60 yard spirals without any pain to his surgically reconstructed arm and shoulder.

not quite....I don't believe there was mention of him throwing 60 yards without any pain...rather it was more reminiscing to the day when he:

"Tim Couch fakes a handoff, pirouettes left, dashes five steps, gets his feet set under him and launches a perfect spiral some 60 yards downfield."

That was out of the article describing him before his injury.

If his arm is really healed, like they said on the Sportscenter special they did on him a few weeks ago... then he would be a good pick up. However, still probably would not be able to contribute anything for 4 or 5 games. He'd have to learn this offense, get comfy with our WR's, etc...

I doubt it, but would either AJ or Gus put up with being the third starter? Probably not. Therefore if couch beats either one of them i think they will demand a trade or get released. But then again couch hasnt played so its unlikely he will beat either one of them for the starting job if we bring him in.

I doubt he gets a chance to compete for the one this year. He was out of football all of last year and he is coming off the type of injury where one decent hit and it alls over.

You know, Couch gets slammed a lot as being a bust, but his stats are actually very average - not too bad, not too good. Is it that much of a reach to think this guy could become a decent, if not spectacular, QB (ala Drew Brees)? Let's face it, if a guy walks off the street this evening and shows he can hit wide open receivers - he would probably win the starting QB job right now.

I say, bring this guy in and see what he can do. He'd probably be ready to play by the time Ricky comes back. He could be crap, but he also could be a major steal!

I agree. There is no reason why we shouldn't atleast bring him in for a workout.

Rohan Davey should come in in for a workout too, what the hell...

Thank you. Neither Gus nor A.J. are good enough to claim their egos would be bruised by such a move. If anything, it would light a :fire: under their A..

Different types of players. Traylor and Chester are big slugs that clog up the middle of field. Simon is an active disruptive penetrator that spends a good deal of time in the offensive backfield. He can pursue to the sidelines. He is as good a pass rushing DT as there is in the league. Not many DTs get more than 6-8 sacks a year. Four of his five years in Philly he posted very good sack numbers for a DT. He also has something like 105 career QB hurries which can be better than a sack if it forces the QB to throw to a wrong colored jersey.
I think our D looks very good right now, but adding a Corey Simon would make us lights out. The added pressure we'd get on QBs with Simon coming up the middle would sure help out our corners and Howard is shaky and Daniels is a rookie. They would both look much better with Simon on the DL, IMO.

I Think It's A Great Idea To Bring Couch In, A New Start For Him With New Suroundings. Also Corey Simon Would Be Great Addition To The D.

Uh, no, the article was describing him now. My problem is some other stuff the article said though, that he hurt himself by throwing wrong and is learning to use the right motions now. When the game is going 100mph, will he remember to "throw it correctly"? Also, f he is so fragile that he can tear up his own arm/shoulder by throwing badly, how's it gonna feel when he gets driven into the ground by a 300lb monster? Add to all that that he doesn' even remotely have knowledge of the system or players. Doesn't look like a good move to me, at least for this year.
