Clean House - Call Marino

I guess I'm trying to think outside the box a little, what the hell is wrong with that in these times of great despair...i'd be interested in hearing joeharley666's great and holy suggestions if nothing else to simply offer a similar level of constructive criticism :limp:

Did anyone think Elway would be a success?

Even as a figurehead he would undoubtably bring some credibility back. What is so preposterous about trying to construct a winning foundation to the team - I'm not advocating he be annointed GM, simply a high profile involvement within the organisation, one he knows inside out and has a passion for.

Dude, Elway was grooming himself for that job for years. Marino has been cheating on his wife and frolicking in the CBS studio

Elway is a Stanford grad and a legitimate business man before this leadership stint with the Broncos. We should not compare on the field prowess to front office potential for success.

Good point well made, living in the UK I guess I don't have quite have my finger on the pulse...what about John Offerdahl, does he not have a bagel business lol

Nothing against Dan, but I don't think this would be a good idea. Dan is my favorite NFL player ever, but just because a guy is successful as a player, doesn't mean they are cut out to be a GM. Dan played with a passion and intensity that not many NFL players have, but you also have to be able to evaluate and manage players. You need to be able to scout guys and have players who will fit into the coaching scheme.

Michael Jordan, Isiah Thomas, Larry Bird, Matt Millen....all very good to great players, but they didn't do much when asked to coach or GM a team. Sometimes these great players also have great ego's and they just cannot run organizations. Dan is making $2 million a year working one day a week during the NFL season at CBS.....he wouldn't leave that for less money, much longer work days and more headaches here in Miami.

Oh and in regards to Elway....he ran a very large and successful car dealership and then an Arena League team before working as the Bronco's VP of Operations.

Dumb.

You guys need to let the past go.

Beginning to sound like Miami Hurricane fans.

"Bring back this guy from the 80's and that guy from the 80's. They were here when we used to win. Those guys bleed for the U. Those guys know what it takes to win. Art Kehoe was a great hire he jumps off the bus yelling and spitting...high fiving fans with authority. That's so SWAG. The U is back."

Get proven individuals who know how to do the job. Just because Dan Marino is the greatest QB we've ever known, what makes him the guy to magically change the culture of the franchise today? If it's so easy to just go out and grab a former superstar QB, then we have plenty to choose from if/when Marino doesn't work out or if/when Marino says no to our idiot owner.

Let go of the past. Move into the future.

I grew up in the 80's, and my 2 favorite people were Arnold Schwazenegger and Dan Marino. I wasn't crazy abt Arnold being a Gov. and I'm not crazy abt Dan being a VP, Pres.

Those guys were good at what they did. Those second careers were not the greatest of ideas.

Plus, they both cheated on their wives, lol.

Maybe Arnold should be GM?

:idk:

Marino for GM......no!

However, I would like to see Marino a little more involved with the organization in PR type areas.

I think that what Elway has done is very rare and he somewhat worked towards it to make sure he would be successful.

Wouldn't mind seeing Marino as a QB coach. There has to be a few things he can teach Thill. Gotta be able to help him with the awareness, what it takes in the huddle(leadership) and a few other intangibles
Maybe, maybe not, oh I don't know

Marino is the answer exactly why? Because he was really good at throwing a football? Running the team takes hard work and knowledge that is accumulated over years. No wonder you have a mupet for an avatar. You have an incredibly simple view of how things really work.

Does anyone remember when he basically took the job you are describing or at least to be trained for it and he bailed after a week?

Danny wouldn't touch it any way. Aponte isn't his type.
