Okay so this has been one of the hotly contested battles throughout the preseason and now that the Patriots are upon us who is going to start against them? Will it be Clemons or Jones? I see Clemons oddly has an undisclosed injury and is not practicing in pads. Does this mean Jones will be the starter? Thoughts?

If they are both healthy, I think that for this game, Clemons makes more sense.

I think it will depend completely on what type of team we are facing as the season goes on.
With the Cheatriots pass-happy offense, Clemons makes more sense.
For the Jests run heavy, Jones.

Can we merge this with the other Clemons vs Jones thread?

I say Jones starts, he may actually make teams think twice about throwing deep. Clemons is a solid backup, that is all.

not sure an intimidator is much in demand these days. not with how easily the zebras throw flags.

I mean with regard to interceptions. He has shown he can get his hands on the ball, which Clemons has not.

i would roll with reshad...doesn't matter if its a pass happy o or not if your free safety doesn't have the instincts or ball awareness to get there...reshads instincts and feel for the passing game make up for him not having chris clemons straight line speed...reshads fast enough any ways and he has legit quick acceleration when changing directions

and reshad will make you pay for catching the ball...you're gonna feel reshad jones

Cant say I disagree but Jones takes some pretty bad angles where Clemens doesnt. That is the only edge I would give Clemens.

not sure i've seen evidence of either of those things...to be honest...bad angles from jones or good ones from clemons

my concern with jones at free though is what its always been...if teams can get him one on one with legit vertical speed when that speed invades his cushion can jones transition out of his pedal smoothly or will be get run right by...from what i saw on college tape and late last season i think the answer is he better bail early...

but chris clemons doesn't have great hips or transition either and he'll struggle with any ball over his head...

so its pick your poison in some sense i guess...i'll go with the instincts and ball skills in that case over the guy thats always late with top speed

I got a pick 6 with Jones in Madden yesterday. That means he should start!!

I have occasionally heard rumblings from Clemens supporters about Jones taking bad angles. Although I dont recall which play against Dallas last week, there was one that really stood out. His angle was horrible and the WR went past him easily.

I am with you on wanting Jones for his playmaking ability but there could be that occasional big play he may give up on a bad angle.

i would start jones but then you have the slowest hardest hitting safety tandem in the league

Ehh I don't know, Bell seems to have that extra gear when he needs it. I can't count how many times Bell has caught someone from behind to save a touchdown.

And Jones isn't much slower than Clemons. He doesn't have raw speed but he gets up to top speed quickly.
