Clyde Gates needs to be our #2 receiver

Here's is what we know, and it's fact I'm not making it up, Brian Hartline has gone several practice days without making a catch with any of the 4 QBs currently on the roster...Gates has caught a TD in every practice so far and he's caught a TD from every QB so it makes no difference who throws him the ball, he makes plays.

thats cus they worked hartline last week. they want to get gates moving quickly and consistently cus of the screwy offseason. Bess is our slot.

what else do you need to know that you dont.

oh, B marshall it is said to have reported that the police discovered a loaded gun that marshall handed to police that was bloody. no concern though. everything is cool with b.

gates is a rookie.

He'll help our team NOW because he'll take two guys deep out of the play from time to time and let Bess and Marshall run around under him and one of them will be one on one and will be open............As far as him being a #2 this year it's just not in the cards for him yet.

He went to a small school and doesn't really know how to use his speed yet, and he still doesn't know how to run routs either. He has a long road a head of him before he starts in the NFL.

before he starts or if he starts. The landscape is littered with wr's from small schools that were drafted because they were lightning fast. Dexter jackson went second round because of his 40 time and is already in ufl

Yup,

I honestly don't know why people hate on Hartline, this guys is no slouch. He might not be Edmond Gates fast, but he's no Ed McCaffery. The guy's fastest 40 time was a 4.44, his official 4.52. I believe I read that he was a 110m hurdle champion. He runs very precise routes and is a smart tough player. He just doesn't have gamebreaking speed.

I think we should definitely have packages where we use Gates to open up the offense and keep safties honest and out of the box to 1) stop the run or 2) double BM

Hartline has been solid for where he has been picked at, he has been a pleasent suprise so far.

well i have heard that a couple of times on this site but Knox was a better player at ACU in the two seasons he played. he had 118 receptions for 2227 yards with 30 tds
while Gates in four seasons had 158 receptions for 2885 yards with 27 tds. Knox was just a more dangerous player. Knox may be slightly faster but ever so slightly.
would love to see the race.

It's just talk but I've heard that his coach said Gates is faster than Knox.

Well who knows Im sure there are some track times but overall I have seen slightly faster times from Knox in the 40 from sources. Now these times are like 4.29 versus 4.32 which is blink of an eye marginal

You're right he's no Ed McCaffrey. McCaffrey was one of the best #2 WRs in the league when he played. The guy had 3 straight 1000 yard seasons and a 101 catch season from 1998-2000 before he got hurt in 2001.

most players are not ed mccaffrey but he is a solid player for where we drafted him

What relevance does Marshall have a gun and giving it to police have on this thread? Did he kill somebody with it? No...non issue.

they hate on him because he's white

:x

Brian Hartline and Ed McCaffery are nothing alike. Nothing. Brian Hartline is also not like Joe Jurevicius, Jordy Nelson, Don Beebe, Brandon Stokely, Raymond Berry, Ricky Proehl, Steve Largent or Crazylegs freakin' Hirsch.

(well, maybe a bit like Nelson...)

Enough with this crap.
