C'mon...where's the Gator fans???

The SEC is still possibly the stronger conference but an honest look at whats going on would certainly suggest that the SEC is on a decline and the ACC is on the ups. You don't have to agree yet but the proof will be at seasons end.

Please explain...The SEC was very young this past year. We've lead the nation in recruiting the last three years.Look at the coaches in the SEC.
Only Butch Davis could go to a top SEC school.Listen I like UM,but
do you think Bama,Florida,LSU,Ga or even Old Miss is sitting around thinking "Damn, I wish we could hire Randy Shannon"?
Look at the TV contract the SEC just signed..Thats a extra 20 million a
year to each SEC school,no matter what happens.EVERY SEC football game will be on TV.ALL of them...think that hurts recruiting?Compare the stadiums and facilities of the ACC to the SEC.Again..I like Miami..
but the Cane's never sell out...and Landshark Stadium..(God' I miss the
Orange Bowl)only holds about 80,000.
Take Bama for example, next year when the exspansion to BD is complete
and we open with Penn State,it will hold 103,000 and there will be about
20,000 extra people that couldn't get in watching from the Quad.
The SEC Championship game is just about the crown jewel of college
football,2nd only to the BCS championship game.
We've won the most BCS championships.Weve won the last 4 out 5,I
think, and the last three in a row.
How is the SEC declining?

This year, many teams in the SEC suck compared to last year at least. Georgia is an example of that.

I dont follow the SEC too much so dont know about the other teams.

But for you to rather play 2 Div 2 opponents instead of a Div 1 team, is very unmanly.

SUCK? please name them and explain with some facts or stats.

They've lead the nation in recruiting, and Kyle Wright was the #1 QB coming out of high school. Recruiting ratings mean nothing.

About the facility, Landshark Stadium is a top facility in College Football.
The Swamp is a swamp.

And I dont know many people outside the SEC that care about their championship game.

When I say that I think the SEC is on a decline I mean the all around quality of talent on the teams. Alabama, Georgia & LSU, will consistently, year in and year out, posses exceptional talent (I left out Florida b/c they will drop off after this year), but the rest of the teams are not that strong anymore. My assessment is that the SEC isn't as strong as it used to be from top to bottom. I could care less about TV contracts and the population of brainwashed students that attend the games. I lived in Ga*nesville for 5 years, you know why there are so many people at the games... there is nothing else to do in that forsaken town. Everybody goes to the games on Saturdays b/c it's the cool thing to do. Not because you have 90,000 dedicated ga*tor fans. At least in Landshark we know that the fans are actually there for the Canes and not just tagging along b/c some slutority sister had an extra ticket and they want to dress up and look pretty in their new orange and blue outfit.

Now when you talk about winning the BCS 4 out of 5 years, I gotta listen. That's what matters. Until there is a playoff sysytem in place thats what we have to deal with. But I also agree with Dolfan 94 in saying unless your team plays in the SEC championship, you don't give a rip (Though I will gladly watch Bama kick the swamp gas out of those fake crocodiles)

Anyways after my rambling, to put it simple, the SEC (especially the East) can no longer rest on it's laurels of being the most difficult conference to play in. SEC teams (aka ga*tors) must schedule better out of conference games to be respected.

Please name the last National Championship team that did not have highly ranked recruits.Thats just freaking silly.College football is ALL about recruiting. The recruiting rankings run about 80% accurate.Kyle Wright was a good QB on a bad team with bad coaching.

And Joe Robbie Stadium is a top stadium built for the Miami Dolphins and happens to rent it out to the Canes and Marlins.
I love the Dolphins but, really, because Joe Robbie was built to house baseball also..its not really a good football stadium because of the first seats being to far away from the field.
When i mean facilities,i mean practice field, weight rooms and the whole nine yards used for recruiting. There's that meaningless recruiting word
again.I've seen Miami's facilities and they are not in the same league with
Alabama's.Miami is a private school and the differance in money put into
athletics,is what separates the SEC from the ACC.

If nobody else cares about the SEC title game then why is it always
the highest rated championship game?
Why is it the only championship shown at prime time?
If nobody outside the SEC cares about the SEC then why did CBS and
ESPN offer a multi-billion dollar contract to show all their games.

Just use facts,please.

I hope you don't think i'm a gator fan?
Hell no, I'm a Bama guy...I hate those gators..We've lost more because
of those gators over the years than you cane fan's can even imagine.

That's because we straight OWN those Gators with the exception of last year and they damn well know it. The Gators WISH they could equal the success we've had.

And for the record, I gotta side with Namor on this one guys. He's absolutely right with his points. If I wasn't posting from my phone I'd help break it down.

But I will say this...Kyle Wright was a GREAT QB coming out of high school and no doubt he had some TERRIBLE coaching. Coker ruined a great thing.

Ahhhhh....this is wonderful....

There's nothing better than listening to you guys bicker about college football.....it means it's finally here.....

Keep it up fellas....

Roll mf'in Tide

Ted.. I've missed you bro.
Always good to know where my fellow Roll Tiders are.
You getting ready for VT?

I'm counting on Alabama to roll Virginia Tech because like last season against Clemson, I plan on dropping a nice chunk of change on the Tide just before kickoff.

You betcha....If I get anymore ready they'll have to throw me away because I'd be rotten...

Time to put another good ol' country boy *** whoopin on the ACC's prized possession again...

Hey JC,whats up...
What bothers me..is I think I get a bad rap for being so pro SEC,
but the fact is the SEC puts more money into their programs.
I still feel the ACC still puts more emphasis on basketball, overall.
A perfect world would have Fla. St and Miami in the SEC and Kentucky
and Vandy in the ACC.
Imagine the football meat grinder that would be.
plus if Miami (my 2nd favorite college team)were in the SEC,that extra 20 million a year from the TV contract would help get and keep a elite coach.
No disrespect to Shannon, but Miami deserves a great high profile coach, not a good coordinator you hope becomes a good head coach.
4 to 5 million a year is fixing to become the norm for the best coaches.
Look at it this way the best coach in the ACC is Butch Davis,If he hadn't left Miami for more money the Florida football landscape sure would look different. If Shannon were to stumble and Miami had to go looking for a new coach, they can't offer the big bucks for a big time coach and recruiting staff.Alabama tried for years to do it cheap way and think "tradition' alone will attract the elite players and it cost us.Money and
recruiting is the name of the game in college football.
But enough of that,..Jc how you been doing? Here's to a great college
and Dolphin football season.

Kind of cool how we hijacked a Gator thread.

It is what it is man. You ain't stating nothing but truth here. The SEC has a strangle hold on college football. I live in the South. Graduated from an SEC school. These people take their football seriously. They're always going to have more money and dedication to their programs. The ACC loses three schools (UNC, Duke, Maryland) immediately to basketball. Butch Davis is a premier coach but no way does he stick around at UNC for an extended period of time.

Donna Shalala, president of Miami, is not as dedicated to the football program as she would have you believe. Miami is a private school. She's all about graduation rates and academics at Miami. She loves the football program, but she won't sacrifice the academic standards for a football powerhouse. We've seen Notre Dame suffer under the same light.

We have high profile alum but it goes back to the old saying, "There is power in numbers." Alabama, Florida, Tennessee...these schools have those numbers. And by numbers I mean a large alumni fan base. We may have some very wealthy alum, but they're not enough to throw the mega bucks at high profile coaches like the SEC schools can do.

Is Shannon the right guy for Miami? It's too tough for me to say really. My thought is this: Shannon isn't an offensive mind. He never intends to be. He felt that Patrick Nix was the guy who could coach and execute offense on top of clock management, etc. I truly believe that Shannon is clueless on offense. And believe me, Shannon spent an extremely long period of time picking who he felt was the right guy for the job this time around. Mark Whipple has as much experience as anyone out there. It's not like we don't have the talent to win and win big. Shannon wants to focus on recruiting and putting quality kids on the field and in the Miami classrooms. That "Thug U" garbage is out the window with Shannon. I think Lovett was a puppet hire. Our secondary has been putrid the past few seasons. Lovett is a DB specialist. Behind the curtains, Shannon will orchestrate this defense.

Recruiting in college football is everything. You'd better believe it. Think about how much different things would be in college football today had Alabama swayed Tim Tebow away from Florida in the final hours. Tim Tebow is a difference maker and great recruiters will spot this in a KID. A kid man. There's a reason I have a "Hurricanes Recruiting Thread" apart from just a regular Hurricane news thread. It's a different animal. If you really want to find out about college football recruiting, pick up the book "Meat Market" by Bruce Feldman (also wrote 'Cane Mutiny detailing the rise of the Miami Hurricanes).
