Coaching hot seat

I think Ireland's fate has already been decided but the correct way to handle it is wait until the investigation is complete or the season ends. Philbin is up in the air. His wanting Incognito cut after the golf course molestation would have avoided this mess and to be over ruled because he was the new guy is ridiculous and will cost the GM his job. That decision was based on common sense and decency not experience. Ireland is a first class ******* without no concept of how to interact with human beings.

If Philbin survives the only way Sherman departs is if Joe quietly convinces him to retire the same way Henning was handled.
 
Ireland stays, and the whole staff stays. I do not like it, but if Ross doesn't fire Ireland, it will stay status quo.
If Ireland is fired, Shermin and his son the QB coach will be fired. That move alone will improve the offense. there is no where to go but up. We have the play makers to score 24+ per game.
That will upset Philbin in the beginning out of respect for his friend and mentor. In the long run, depending on who the new OC is, it will decide Joes long term survival as a coach.
I believe that Ross likes Joes style and that he has at least another 3 years to prove himself...based on what happened with Sparano.
With a different GM and OC, this team could challenge New England next year IMHO.

I don't follow your logic on Sherman being fired if Ireland is. Sherman's future will be on Philbin to decide and I just don't see him firing him. Zac Taylor, maybe.

Well Philbin really wasn't criticized here either. It's mentioned that the only reason he's even on the list is because we don't know what will come out of the investigation.

Hell, most outlets have praised Philbin for how he's handled himself and the team during this debacle.

As for Sherman, lost in the wake of Martin leaving the team was the fact around the same time reports serviced that the players on offense were not happy with Sherman's playcalling (Mike Wallace in particular), and even people in the front office were questioning what Sherman was doing.

I do think if Philbin felt that Sherman had to go, he'd make the decision to go away from him. Sure they're friends, but this isn't like other situations where it would require firing a family member.

And just to correct Maddog, Henning wasn't talked into retiring. His contract was up and Sparano actually tried to talk Henning into coming back for another year, but Henning said it was best for both parties to go their separate ways.

As for Ireland, again all you have to do is go back to Ross's initial pc about Martin. Ireland wasn't involved, and his name was mentioned once; as a guy that had been contacted by the league for questioning. He wasn't mentioned as being part of any of the 1 million committees we have now, nor was he mentioned as part of the policing.

I tend to believe this. I base this on Philbin staying and then being asked his opinion on Ireland.

I think Philbin said recently that he has liked the job Ireland has done but not with complete conviction. I am sure he was impressed with how he got Jordan and has a team that has alot of guys who need to be resigned and getting a new GM at this point would disrupt the good that has happened. Year 3 for Philbin is a big one IMO because of all the new pieces that could be huge next year having been in the system.

I think about Grimes, Soliai, Mckinney, Carroll, ect ect. on getting these guys resigned and the investigation which is looking pretty weak for Martin camp based on body language. All the studying of current college players goes to a new guy who basically would start from scratch as far as who we would look for.

I base my opine on Ireland on these things. Not hatred. His drafts these past two years are not bad. I invite anyone to tell me I am wrong.
 
I think our staff is average at best this year but the path to the playoffs is there for the taking this year. If we make it Joe stays and maybe Ireland too. We have chance to win out and I think it's almost impossible for Baltimore to do that with their remaining schedule
 
Retired, quit. Its a horse a piece. My memory doesn't allow me to remember the exact details. :lol:
 
Thank god Sherman is finally getting called out publicly. Thats the first step to firing.
