Coaching Question on Dallas Thomas?

I have not given up on Dallas Thomas, I do think the injury and then not settling him at one position hurt his progression.

I think he is a natural left guard and fits our scheme with his mobility. Hopefully with a healthy offseason, he will add some strength and be ready to take over left guard,

Anybody that's given up on Dallas Thomas already is nuts. Evan Mathis was a journeyman we cut about 5 years ago, and look at him now. We need to see what the guy can do with a new o-line coach, and his first, complete NFL off-season.

He is obviously a LG, hopefully he'll take advantage of the opportunity to compete this TC and step up into the position as a starter, or at least quality depth.

I saw where Philbin had said we needed to check out the younger guys before going vet on the OL, which may change depending on who is available. I would think he was talking about Dallas and Brenner. Teams are allowed to start off season workouts on April 21. That would be when he and Benton could see how much stronger the two have gotten.

Wouldn't it be great if Benton believed that one was a viable starter for this year? I'm not counting on it but, would think they should be better options than a rookie in the 3rd or 4th round.

That would be a VG thing, and being between Pouncey and Albert does help. If we go with a rookie RT and Smith, the right side would be a concern at this point.

Sam Brenner is the forgotten man. He was O.K. at times last year as an undrafted rookie. He's athletic, and his biggest issue is strength at the point of attack. I'm curious to see if he improves in that regard this off season.

Agreed. I've read where players have said he is hardest working guy on the team, and I expect his strength will be much improved. Hard to say if he will be ready this year but, a definite keeper, and a good system fit.

Does Thomas has any experience at rg? Shelley Smith is much better at lg as opposed to rg.

I would have no fears at all if we get Zach Martin to play RT, IMO he is 10 year player in this league from day one, with lots of flexability.

I would love to see Zach Martin and Morgan Moses come from the draft somehow......we would have the makings of a very good line.

kid may pan out but the played hurt thing in camp last year was a flat excuse...he was cleared for full contact prior to camp

People act like players before these guys have never been banged up and produced.
I accept neither excuse for him or Jordan.
If Jordan was not healthy enough to play more they would not have played him on special teams.
Thomas sucked all over the line in training camp and that's why he didn't play.

The right side is also where the overwhelming majority of his sacks were allowed.

More than overwhelming, it was 100%. All two of his sacks allowed were in the two games he started, and played much more. He gave up 1 vs Tenn, and 1 vs Seattle. That's it.

I cannot imagine any rookie coming into camp, and playing at LT, RT, LG, and RG being ready to play.
