Coaching vs. Personell

Tannehill's two sub-50 QB ratings are on Philbin? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to win in the NFL when your quarterback is playing that poorly?

Still haven't figured out it's a team sport yet eeh?

I'm not sure how the personnel department can view itself as having provided the necessary talent to win when the team is still working with a developmental QB who has never played a full season at even an average level of performance in the important areas.

Of course that QB may develop in the future and play at the level necessary to be highly competitive in the NFL, but until and unless that happens, the personnel department hasn't done what it needs to do to make the team highly competitive.

True but in the personnel departments defense, this team was one game away from making the playoffs and had two winnable games to do it in and they failed....can't say I blame them for thinking this way....

Why did they fail?

Let's look at Buffalo....pathetic O-line led to Tannehill getting sacked 7 times and knocking him out of the game for several plays. Backup QB did complete all 3 of his passes...but 2 of those were to the wrong team. Now the OC could have used a game plan that emphasized more screen passes, roll outs and counters but Tannehill was getting hit on a 3-step drop in that game. That's hard to overcome....personnel was a huge issue in that game as it has been all year. Defense got run all over in this game and in coverage Wallace was getting burned by Chambers the TE. Linebackers are Jeff Ireland's picks.

Let's look at the Jets....Tannehill played awful...no two ways about it...his knee may have been hurting him, I don't know but I have never seen him so woefully off on his throws as he was in that game. We lost Hartline and the drop off from Hartline to Matthews was significant...some key dropped passes in that game by Matthews and a lack of physicality from Wallace on balls thrown his way where he let a rookie get more physical than him to the ball did nothing to help the QB on a day he needed all the help he could get. On a roster made up of mostly free agent WRs you need to make sure they can do what the offense needs them to do. Wallace didn't make plays for his QB all year...Wallace had to have plays come to him, basket catches on long throws where it was easier for the DB to play through the ball and swat it out of his hands, not attacking the ball at the highest point...how many PIs did Wallace draw this year on all those deep balls? Defensively we got run on by a QB...our linebackers were missing tackles ON THE QB. That's not coaching, that's personnel.

This team does not have enough talent. Wallace, Hartline, and Tannehill are not the talent to take you to the playoffs. That much is obvious. If you're going to run a tempo WCO offense you need playmakers, and neither of those 3 "big acquisitions" is the man for the job. Neither is the depth at LB to combat different teams in the NFL.
As far as coaching, the offensive gameplan could be improved. But the problem remains, you cannot win with the big 3, Wallace, Hartline, Tannehill.

I don't think I agree with this. We started the year with Wallace, Hartline, Gibson and Keller.....I think that is a pretty good lineup. The longer routes were almost eliminated from the playbook early on since RT had zero time to throw the ball....we became a quick hit, short to medium passing offense. I see this as more a function of the O-line and Running game than I do the receivers. RT made some good progress this year IMO.

The bottom line is, they, meaning the players and coaches, didn't get the job done, that same awful line beat the Pats two weeks prior, that same beat up QB had a career day against the same Jets a few weeks prior.....all I am saying is they should have won one of the games with that personnel they had and I can understand why the personnel dept things they had enough talent to get the playoffs this yr, this doesn't mean they feel the talent is good enough and no changes need to be made.....

Only way Dansby is in the playoffs is if he bought tickets to go see someone play.

Also, anyone that understands the schemes, even a little bit, can see that we don't have the right personnel for the schemes the coaches want to run.

I went back and was looking at some of the zone blocking schemes were were using, it is just ridiculous with slugs like McKinney. He may be great at pass blocking, but he simply cannot working in a zone blocking scheme...same with Jerry.

Look at some of the players we had that are excelling on other teams, or teams that are in the playoffs.

Marshall - excelling.
S.Smith - Playoffs
V.Davis - Playoffs
Dansby - Playoffs
Bush - Excelling.

We had tons of talent on this team. Our coaching has sucked for YEARS. Since Wannestedt. And STILL we don't clean house fully.

Get rid of everybody, and let a new GM pick his coach, and allow accountability to reign from top to bottom. Too many scattered parts.

Create clear defined roles. GM answers to owner or president, head coach answers to the GM. OC's and asst. coaches answer to HC.

Ross has to pick that ONE right guy and let him do all the hiring. Just ONE.

Just do it.

Give me a break! Smith and Davis have been crap all year. Davis had one good game on national television and everyone thinks he's good. The very next week he got roasted!! And Smith, he still can't ****ing tackle...

We went 2-4 in our crappy division, and missed the wildcard in a bad AFC conference. This team is not close.
