Colts give Jonathan Taylor permission to be Traded

eh, how far have the Titans gotten with CJ2k and now Derrick Henry? 49ers and CMC(Panthers too)? Zeke? Aaron Jones? Sure a great Rb is nice to have, but a standout Rb doesn't harbor much advantage over 3rd round rookie. Chiefs had Pachecko. Rams had sony michel- 1st rounder but no way a great rb. And yeah that list is a little misleading, but even with those execeptions...they didn't lead the team in rushing during the SB. And without those execptions? The winning team(and even the loser in most cases) didn't have a top 5 RB.

FWIW Henry was oh so close to taking Tannehill and the Titans to a SB.

The only time I have to worry about pumping gas in cold weather is when we travel during the winter. Living here in South Florida, I haven’t had to turn on the heat in my house for at least 20 years. We are the area where winter
no longer visits.
Were you down there when it snowed in like 1977? I was 5 and it’s pretty much the only thing I remember from that timeframe.

There is more fighting in this thread than actual updates. Has anyone seen or heard anything? Honestly I think JT would put this team over the top because of how it affects others on the roster. Teams would realize that they have to load the box and with all the speed we have on the outside it is the exact opposite of what a team has to do to combat us.
JT would do wonders for us and I think Grier is ready to extend him or we would not have offered the colts a package.

Go Fins! Get it done Grier!
A healthy JT would be lethal with the FIns speed on the outside. Guy is a great combination of power and breakaway speed. The only knock I have on the guy as a player is his pass pro. I’m not sold on him as a receiver either, but that may be lack of opportunities. Colts had Hines for that role. The question is what he wants money wise. I wouldn’t pay any RB long term at $15-16m a year which has been rumored what he wants. He may take less to get out of Indy at this point though. I don’t think he’s had the market he envisioned.

He had a lot of carries at Wisconsin and that concerns me with him long term. One thing is certain- Bills wouldn’t want to see him in a Fins jersey.

I have lived in South Florida since 1961. So I remember the day you are referring to. The snow flakes came down very lightly where I lived at the time and melted within an hour.

We had much cooler winters in the 1970’s and 1980’s than we have now.

I was watching Phinside the NFL and they were saying that he is asking 18.5 mil/yr. They have sources in the media and around the league.
JT participated in the zoom call the RBs had this offseason and there is a belief he is taking the lead in resetting the RB market. It makes sense for him to be the one to do it with his 2021 season, his age, and not being franchised yet like Jacobs and Barkley. It is another possible explanation for his heel turn. Early in the off-season he was saying the right stuff - under contract and things would work out. At some point he changed agents and demanded a trade. It is uncharacteristic for him. It’s easy to blame Irsay, I don’t buy it though. Irsay has plenty of faults but paying players isn’t one of them - unless the request is unreasonable. JTs to this point have likely been unreasonable. And many reports have suggested that. However, a team could get the benefit of the deterioration of his relationship with the Colts. He may take less at this point just to get paid and out of Indy. That less is still likely substantial though.

I’m curious - what is the belief here? That JT is injured or not? I hope he is traded and Miami is the leading spot. That’s why I came here. I thought some would want an Indy perspective and I was curious what Miami fans thoughts were. Unfortunately the only thing I’ve engaged with is Irsay sucks and it’s all his fault. As usual the truth is likely in between.

What I’m curious is if he has a lingering ankle injury would you still want to trade for him? The procedure he had should have recovered in 6-8 weeks. He had it in January. If he’s faking the injury, would you still want to trade for him?
All anyone on here really knows is that Taylor had surgery on his ankle after last season and the Colts put him on PUP because he is said to still be recovering from the surgery.

Whether that is the entire reason they choose to put him on PUP is something only the Colts and Taylor know. Yet if he is traded to any team, he would have to pass a physical prior to the trade being completed.

From my own perspective, if he is still recovering from the ankle surgery he had last season, I would be very hesitant to trade for him. Yet if he passed a physical and was cleared to play immediately, I would make the trade as long as no first round pick was involved.

A second round pick and a 7th round pick is the most I would trade for him. If the Colts wanted a WR thrown into the trade, the Dolphins would likely love to make Cedric Wilson part of the trade too.

If they are going to pay a player $18.5 million a year, I would rather that player be Wilkins. I just don’t see any RB in the NFL today worth that type money.

The concerning part of the injury is that he had the surgery in January and typical recovery is 6-8 weeks. If that’s still the issue Then it’s very concerning. The weird thing is that he nor the Colts can expect to trade him if he’s legit injured right? Especially needing a new contract.

I’d honestly be surprised if the Colts traded him for less than the equivalent of a first. They actually have a lot of leverage. They can franchise him next year too. They have a good cap situation and indications have been they’ve been planning financially to resign both JT and Pittman - so franchise money isn’t an issue.

WR room is weak, but what they are missing is a true #1 unless Pittman takes a leap in a contract year. I don’t think Wilson moves the needle for the Colts.

Unfortunately I think he stays with the Colts - between the teams asking price and JTs contract demands I think the cost is too high. Even for a player of JTs caliber. RB shelf life is too short and they are too easily replaced. Personally I’d take a 2 and a 4 and move on. I don’t think Colts will though.

I’m ready to just stop thinking about the JT acquisition. We have a very good stable of qualified running backs.
