Colts give Jonathan Taylor permission to be Traded

The great news is, Grier is willing to consider adding players like Jonathan Taylor when the opportunity arises but doesn't get so set on adding the player that he gets duped into an overpay.

He didn't do it for Dalvin Cook and now he didn't do it for Taylor. The price has to be right.

That's being aggressive yet responsible.
I don't think this is accurate at all. Grier tried to "do it" but the owner of the Colts decided to let his own player twist in the wind, by putting him on the PUP for four games rather than taking fair compensation in a trade. Grier did everything in his power to make this happen but wasn't goint to pay over market value for an injured player. We move on.

Fine with Grier not overpaying, but definitely was hoping for a deal. Our running back room is full of interchangeable JAGs, and not a single person I’d have confidence in being able to take 4 minutes off the clock when nursing a small lead or anyone I trust to pick up a game saving 4th and 1. But you also can’t completely mortgage the future. But hey Indy, if he’s going to miss 4 games price just went down to a 3rd. I hope Taylor also files a grievance for being placed on the PUP while healthy.

Taylor is now worth less than he was before. Irsay miscalculated.
Correct. Taylor hasn’t played or practiced since December 2022. It will be early October before he is eligible to play since he was left on PUP entering the season.

So I have no idea why the Colts think his value will increase unless he comes back in October and returns to the player he was in 2021.

Personally I don’t think Irsay wanted to trade him at this time. I think he just wanted to prove to Taylor who is really in charge of his career at this time. Irsay is an idiot and nothing else.

You don't think it's accurate based upon what exactly?

Further, didn't I make the exact same point regarding not getting duped into an overpay??

You're not making much sense here....

Based upon what all the reliable reporters have reported, the Dolphins seriously considered signing Dalvin Cook and trading for Jonathan Taylor and made offers for both. They came away with neither due to price. So, again, what exactly did I write that isn't accurate at all?

Any word on how the Colts fan base (if such a thing exists) is reacting to this?

I hope we do something good with that first we kept and don’t take an Iggy or Harris type player

He can argue that keeping him on the PUP lowers his value and interferes with his ability to negotiate a long term contract.
While you make a valid point. The fact is they can always franchise him after this season and that would also limit his ability to negotiate a long term contract with another team.

Hopefully he can get out of Indy eventually but I don’t think Irsay is going to make it easy for him to escape.

So Indy would double down and pay Taylor 13MM+ for the year to be what .... d*cks? The Colts are in no way winning this battle.

He can try to argue that but since he, apparently, wasn't healthy enough to practice at any point it might be a hard sell.

I don’t expect the Colts to win in the long term. I just expect Irsay to make Taylor’s life miserable for as long as he can. Because unfortunately for Taylor, that is just the type of person Irsay is.

Paying someone more than what an average contract as in spite really doesn't seem to be a way to make someone's life miserable.

Sometimes being happy with the person you work for is more important than money. He is going to get paid no matter where he ends up playing but he certainly doesn’t seem happy in Indy at this time.
