Commentary: NFL:The Reality about Morality

First of all when a decision to trade, cut or release a player is made it's whats best for the team as a whole,in RW case( retiring-quitting) it was whats best for Ricky and screw the team(selfishness). As for Patrick it was cause we couldn't afford to pay him not that we didn't want to.We also needed the salery cap room to sign our up coming picks, again whats best for the team.Notice the team theme going here.So I will cheer on my Dolphins whoever playing I just won't be cheering for Williams by name. That's all I just don't have any respect for RW, judging? maybe that's just the way I feel.About forgiving RW sure no problem but it doesn't mean I have to welcome him with open arms.JMO right or wrong it's how I feel.

So be it.

BTW, I also find it funny that the RB for the ravens gets busted with a whole lotta dope and goes to jail, and he is a swell guy again. I find the double standard simply amazing. when the next big football star gets caught, what do you think they will say? No much, Just wait it out, he will be back. We know Tagliabue and his double standard.

Interesting prospective, Matt. I can say that I have probably changed my mind more about the Ricky situation than he has changed his mind about football. I agree that we are all buying into the loyalty and glory side of football a bit too much. I for one do not look to Ricky Williams to lead me down the path of rightusness. Today I am going to take the "if he can help us win" stance, though tomorow that will most likely change to "he is only coming back to pay child support" line. I really think that the Williams situation is one of the few questions with no right answer. Depending on how it works out, Saban could be a genius or a fool. Can Williams be trusted? No, not yet, mabey not ever; Can Williams rush for 150 yards/2 touchdowns and make it look effortless? Yes. Which is more relavent to what we care about as fans?

Who cares about Bush or Clinton it was the other Guy

Everyone has the right to quit their job!

Abraham Lincoln made sure of that!

Ricky quit because he did not like his Job. If I thought I could support my family. I would quit mine tomorrow. Unfortunately just like Ricky, I have to work.

Athletes are held to a higher standard but they are also pampered. This pampering might lead to an unrealistic view of life. In the last year, Ricky got a dose of reality. You can't run out on contracts or family. He is facing alot of unpleasant consequences to live up to his responsibilities. But isn't this how little boys become real men? Give him a break we all had to grow up.

Run Ricky Run...

Absolutely superb article, Matt. I arrived at the same conclusion about Williams, albeit in a slightly different way. My thought is that whoever can help the team win is welcome, whatever sins they may have committed.

Discuss this article or suffer dire consequences: http://www.finheaven.com/cms/162.html.

First, the "dire consequences" thing is getting old...

Second, you state we should forgive Ricky...what has he done to this point to warrant forgiveness ??? All he has done is return to fulfill his contract. He hasn't shown that he has the drive or heart to play ball again. He hasn't said anything to fans or teammates (save for yesterday's meetings) to warrant any forgiveness yet. He must actually do and say something to show that he is willing to atone for his misgivings to the team and fans before any "forgiveness" is bestowed upon him.

Reality check is that this is pro sports and it is not a moral barometer. It's a business and players are commodities to be brokered anyway the NFL and its owners damn well feels like.

Best line in the article, I've felt that way forever !!!!!!

It's a bot dude. It's not a real poster. Just a (ro)bot that creates a thread when there's new commentary added. So it's going to post the same thing every time.

Have sense of humor. :)

Fairly weak in all regards. Poor piece of writing, with "homer" dripping all over it.
Wow. That was kind of harsh. I am sorry that you fell that it was that poor.

I am glad others, actually the majority, see it completely different.

I hope you read future articles and enjoy them more. Thank you for reading anyway.

He has done everything he can up to this point. He has been comitted enough to get himself in shape, and he has shown up, he has scheduled to speak to the media on the first day the media is allowed in.

Hey even if they guy gets traded, we are getting a chance to get soemthing out of what was once nothing. The dude could have lived in a tent doing massages in Budapest for the rest of his days. He at least is trying.

Matt ... nice work, although the more we start sharing the same opinions, the more frightened I become.
