Commentary: Yet Another Quarterback Article

You're right...it was a severe injury to the elbow of his throwing arm. He had to have liquid drained from it before practices, before games and again at halftime of the last couple games he played in as a junior but he showed the same toughness he displayed last year and didn't come out until he HAD to. He didn't recover strength in that arm until partway into the next season and wasn't really at full strength until well into the season his senior year. As was pointed out, by then Harrington was playing VERY well and the marketing machine had started a campaign that almost culminated in Harrington winning the Heisman. (By the way - even with Harrington playing so well - the OC of those Duck teams (Jeff Tedford) wanted to put AJ back in when he recovered sufficiently, but the Head Coach wouldn't let him.)

As you also noted, he was doing EXTREMELY well (top 5 in the nation well) before the injury.

I've watched AJ from his first practice as a true freshman and, let me tell you, even THEN there was no doubt that he was an outstanding QB. Give AJ the reps with the starters and let him learn the offense (and let the offense learn him) and he WILL be a fine NFL QB.

Thanks for the backup. :D

Suddenly a yellow light comes on and says is that really so...

Don't ... ever ... start ... with a ... joke ... again.

Just kidding.

More and more, I get the feeling the point of the article is moot, as we're going to see a new quarterback in 2006. Just a feeling ...

I mean it's an assumption we all make with how bad the QB's have been here since the great one. But AJ had issues last year winning the start because he wasn't as familiar and comfortable with the system, the O-Line was widely recognised as being as useful a defense as the French armies of the last century. So he hasn't made the progress he might have done and finds himself in exactly the same position right now.

So does that not possibly mean, that Saban has given up on him as the answer this year and waits to see whether he gets the jump next year, whilst insuring himself against that not being the case by spending a day 1 pick in the draft on a QB? Not to mention adjusting his Salary to reflect the fact that he hasn't performed as expected (albeit with mitigating circumstances). I believe I've seen it commented on here lately that as the 2nd was from the next year's draft it equates to a third in real money wouldn't that kind of investment in a QB mean a project who got a couple of years to develop?

I'm remain unconvinced. Saban's agenda maybe a secret between him and Linehan. But what the fans want is a spectacular QB who gets to throw deep regularly, as per our hero. The offensive system is installed. I'm willing to be patient while it develops. I've developed a skeptical approach. that way I'll not be disappointed by another losing season while Saban gets himself a group of winners together.
