Comparing the AFC East Since 1960

Actually the dolphins have 14 first place finishes when you include the strike shortened season in 1982 when the fish went 7-2 to win the division.

The Dolphins went to the super bowl that year and shutout that pansy team in my signature in the AFC Championship.

The jets have only 2 division titles since the 1970 NFL merger compared to the Dolphins 14.. One of their division titles was when Parcells was their coach leading them to their best record ever at 12-4. And the only other division title the Jets have had over the last 40 years was with Chad Pennington as their QB.

In '82 there was not a division winner as they used conf standings not div standings thanks to the strike.

The Dolphins had the best record of any team in the division. They did the best of the teams in the division. It doesn't matter about conf because all the same teams played.

Miami played NYJ, Buf and Bal twice and the Pats once
NYJ played Miami twice and Baltimore & NE once(we didn't even play Buf)
NE played all teams once
Buf played Mia twice, buf and bal once
Bal played Miami twice the Jets, Bills and pats once

How is a true div champ crowned that way? It wasn't, the dolphins were 2nd in the AFC, there wasn't a div Champ.

And of course the Dolphins beat the Patriots and the Jets in that 1982 playoff season..

Regular season record of the teams in the division before ousting both the Pats and Jets in the playoffs.

1. Miami Dolphins 7-2
2. NY Jets 6-3
3. New England 5-4
4. Buffalo Bills 4-5
5. Baltimore Colts 0-8-1

The Dolphins finished first in the division the year before in 1981 with an 11-4-1 record.. They also finished first in the division in each of the following 3 years in 1983, 1984 and 1985 with records of 12-4, 14-2 and 12-4..

It's just silly to say they weren't the best team of the teams in the division when they went to the super bowl that year in 1982, after wiping the floor with the Jets and Pats in the playoffs after having the best record of the teams in the division. The Dolphins dominated the division during that 5 year timeframe.
