Compensatory picks 06

Patriots lost Andruzzi, Patten, Adrian Klemm, and Jim Miller to free agency.

The only free agent they've signed is Monty Biesel, a LB from Kansas City.

They'll be getting comp picks next year... and the one for Andruzzi might be fairly high - 4th round or so, I'd guess.

They've already got 11 picks next year, and my guess is that they'll get another one or two from the league.

Interesting clump, but seriously if the NFL is balancing Frerotte (backup QB), Tillman (may not start), and Spragan (may not start) with Sammy Knight (starter, decent contract), Greenwood (starter, decent contract), and Bryan Robinson...

I would think we'd at least have to get some compensation for that, don't we??? I mean that can hardly be called equivalent.

hey im happy with or without the compensatory picks cause look at our team now and i kno early but hey gotta keep ya head up

Personally I'm wishing we would have managed to get a 1st rounder in 2006 somehow. That tackle class is going to be STELLAR.

I believe Kevin Carter & Vonnie Holliday do not count as a FA in the formula because they were cap casualties.

Signed QB Frerotte, LB Spragan, DB Tillman

Lost DL Robinson, S Knight, LB Greenwood

Thus, at this point, I do not think y'all will qualify for any comp picks at this time

The players who signed 1 yr deals do not usually count in the formula.

Do a search for compensation picks on the site and you will find a link to AdamJT13's work at KFFL where he projects the comp picks. Outstanding work. (I cannot access KFFL at work)

Cap casualties do not count for or against the comp pick formula.

This is the most accurate statement in this thread but the value lost especially when you figure in the "gain" of Tillman, is greater than the value gained so we should get a pick back.

Greenwood and Knight's contracts exceed by far what we paid for our new FA's.

I don't believe you're eligible for comp picks if you sign as many UFAs as you lose, regardless of the quality of the players.

Greenwood left via FA so we should get one for him

Is there a standard chart for determining what round we get our pick?

Also Knight left in free agency, do we get one for him too?

I don't think so...It's not like we were trying to sign those guys. Both of them got cut by the Dolphins. That's not "losing" them. That's tossing them.

IT doesn't matter. We didnt "LOSE" those guys. THey were cut. That's the difference. WE won't get anything for either of those guys. It would only work if we were trying to sign the player and he just chose to go with a better offer-and we did not bring in as many FA's as we "LOST" to other teams for more money.

If that is the case then their system is clearly flawed.
