Gesicki flashed some of the talent that convinced the Dolphins he was a better option in Round 2 than Dallas Goedert. But it came in a session closed to reporters.
In the four practices open to reporters this spring, the rookie out of Penn State has been a non-factor. He has even looked lost at times.
As a result, his reps have largely come with the backups this spring, behind returning veterans A.J. Derby and MarQueis Gray.
Now, if the calendar read early September instead of early June, this would be a flashing red light. Instead, it's one of countless unresolved story lines as the Dolphins near their summer break.

Why do I get the impression they are setting us up for Gesicki being a bust this year?

Not worried. Tannehill will make sure he gets up to speed. It might take both rookies a little more time to learn the playbook, but it is way too early to be concerned about standing out.

Just get him up to speed in the RZ. But, it's still early June

They have obviously identified something he "can't do". Blocking was the weakness in the scouting report but correct me if I'm wrong, they don't do much blocking in minicamp. Hopefully not a big issue

How do you figure? He competed against future accountants and insurance salesmen.

Just the eye test. His routes were more polished, he had more natural hands, he was a better blocker etc.

Agreed though that it's hard to tell with inferior competition.
