I understand that getting Simon right now is out of the question because of the cap...but he is the exact type of player that Saban is looking for in his new 4-3/3-4 Defense. He could be used the same way as Kevin Carter. D-tackle in the 4-3 and D-End in the 3-4.
Imagine a 3-4 with Carter and Simon on the ends. Taylor, Zach, Crowder & Roth at LB, Scary

Yea I agree, Simon is a better bet to have, I just meant by = , that they both could be used as a DT and DE

Uhh, no. Simon can NOT play 3-4 DE. He's strictly a 1-gap penetrator type. Kevin Carter is going to be playing mostly 2-gap. Simon doesnt have the ability to hold ground like Carter or Holliday.

Miami now plays a 1 gap scheme.

I think Simon takes too many plays off to be a Saban type player. Especially at this time of the year when it will be more difficult for Saban to work on his worth ethic.

No they dont. Our DE/DT type guys are going to be playing mostly 2-gap. There is certainly going to be some stunting, but the majority of plays these guys will be asked to play 2-gap. Especially in the 3-4.

I live in Eagles country and I wouldn't want Simon on my Dolphins. His price is far too high for his performance and although he's younger, he's no better than Holliday, Traylor, Zgonina, etc. He's overrated and the Eagles know that he's not worth the headache because DT Mike Patterson will exceed Simon in his first year with the Birds. He's dead weight, too much money, and overrated. I've watched him.

Roth is far too slow to play OLB.

Thankyou. I was scrolling down to see if anyone else wrote this before I responded. Heck he is too slow to play DE for that matter.
But back to the topic, I really don't think Simon would fit in here. We are looking for solid players that may have a bit of baggage so we can get them cheap. Simon has a bit of attitude/baggage and he still demands the big bucks. I really don't think we need him or want him IMO. We have enough players that could turn into the problem child as it is, if eveyone of them start acting up at the same time, we could be in for a long year as it is. We don't need another.

Simon is not that good. I live in Philly and have to watch the Iggles on a regular basis. Simon is very, very overrated and now is reportedly fat and out of playing shape. He's also on the smaller side for DT's and would therefore not be a very good NT.
