Cornell Armstrong

Someone in that front office, maybe Chris Grier himself, put a pin in Cornell Armstrong and said we're coming out of the draft with this player.

They might have lost Alex McGough because of that decision.

I think Armstrong is a hell of a find, personally. I hadn't really looked at him. When a guy looks like he sucks, I'll say he looks like he sucks. He doesn't, though. He's so well rounded, it's pretty remarkable. I wouldn't necessarily call him an aggressive bull by nature, but he knows exactly what he's supposed to do from a physicality standpoint and he throws everything he has into it. There's nothing held back. But what gets really interesting is the array of coverage techniques they ask of him, and his ability to execute all of them like a specialist. I'd say his weakest coverage technique is probably cover two zone, but otherwise he makes coaches proud on pretty much everything. Thrown on 46 times this year and only allowed 17 catches, with a pretty good number of PBUs thrown in there.

Reminds me quite a bit of what I saw out of Kayvon Webster back at South Florida. You just know that if he hasn't quite got the size or length or pure talent to be a starter in the mold of a Brent Grimes (that's quite a line to try and toe), then he's at the very least going to be a standout special teams guy, like Webster.

I thought he played well against FSU in the bowl game, he's tough. I'm glad to have him on our team and think he'll contribute.

Well thanks CK this makes me fill much better about this pick when I didn't see him under Slimms as well as other publications I reviewed anywhere I viewed him as just a ST player. Don't like to waste picks on ST only I want players first who can play specials too. My next question is whu was Armstrong and Polling appear to be ignored in all the pre draft ?

NFL.com had Poling and wrote he had a better than average chance to make an NFL roster.

Watching his highlight video he’s super fast, can play the ball, isagressive doenhill and is really good at going low at the ankles to make a tackle when needed. I remember that used to be the only way to stop Ricky Williams. Lol. I hated when guys got him with that one.

Quentin Poling has a very low chance of making the roster.

He's got two special teams aces in front of him already in Mike Hull and Terence Garvin. Those are proven aces, with lots of skins on the wall that way.

They grabbed Stephone Anthony for a 5th rounder, liked what he did on limited snaps in 2017, and will want to find out more about him.

Chase Allen is pretty much the only slobberknocker left on the roster and you'll have a heck of a time convincing Matt Burke he doesn't need at least one of those.

Combine all that with Minkah Fitzpatrick's drafting as a safety probably signifying their willingness to use more actual 3-safety dime looks with T.J. McDonald underneath, which means fewer snaps to go around at the linebacker position, which means less justification for keeping seven on the roster...

Well, at this point Quentin Poling is just hoping for an injury (not his own).

We have plenty of depth now at LB, especially with TJ rumored to align closer to the line for more big nickel on 1-2 downs. RM/Kiko with TJ will most likely be what we see out there for the majority of the time. Then we have Anthony/Baker/Gervin/Hull/Allen rotating in on specific matchups and playing special teams.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is a slobberknocker? I am foreign and have never heard the expression but I'm always eager to learn.

Haha, I know the feeling. I am a Newcastle United fan and I chat with fans across the pond and one thing I have learned, I don't speak Geordie!!!!!!!!!!

The word was made popular by former wwf announcer Jim Ross

Back in topic tho I am hoping this kid pans out there was a couple different options there on the board at the time of his pick.

It's kind of like a rabbykack, does that help? I thought not! It's laying the wood, blasting the guy into next week, like that.
