Cornell Armstrong

This kid looks really interesting. He seems aggressive, fluid, and with a nice burst to close out on the ball. He seems like a nice tackler too.

People can deny it, but there is a bias toward brand name schools. Guys from lesser schools get docked by and large. You take this player and put him on a blue blood and he may have been a third rounder.

So possibly after reading the post on Polling we may have the linebacker issue addressed finally

Don't bet on it. Our best chance to resolve our linebacker issue is Raekwon McMillan who we drafted last year and he got injured in the preseason. In drafting Jerome Baker in round 3 this year we have doubled down on the Ohio State linebacker corps. Let's see what Poling can do in training camp. He is a 7th round Draft pick and he may struggle to make the roster.

I wouldn't consider the University of Southern Mississippi a "lesser school" so to speak. No, it's not Bama, The U, Michigan, USC, etc.... Still they tend to have a decent football squad more often than not and have historically produced some excellent players who had very nice NFL careers. Four that quickly come to mind are Louis Lipps, Brett Farve, Bobby Hamilton and our very own Patrick Surtain.

Cordell went to school in a town that has a population of less than 500. That alone probably didn't get him the attention that he deserved. Check this out....

Nice willing physical tackler. Reminds me of Vontae Davis.

I've heard the word Slobberknocker and heard it used to describe big offensive lineman..

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is a slobberknocker? I am foreign and have never heard the expression but I'm always eager to learn.

Had to pull up his Bio cause I don't know him. I hope the kid can contribute.

I like the fact the kid is around the football. Very quick and might have a chance as a slot corner and ST player

I see Armstrong as insurance in case McCain leaves in free agency. He seems to be a perfect fit for slot duty.

I see a lot of michael thomas in this dude. Better intagibles but looks the part of special team captain/4th db

Someone in that front office, maybe Chris Grier himself, put a pin in Cornell Armstrong and said we're coming out of the draft with this player.

They might have lost Alex McGough because of that decision.

I think Armstrong is a hell of a find, personally. I hadn't really looked at him. When a guy looks like he sucks, I'll say he looks like he sucks. He doesn't, though. He's so well rounded, it's pretty remarkable. I wouldn't necessarily call him an aggressive bull by nature, but he knows exactly what he's supposed to do from a physicality standpoint and he throws everything he has into it. There's nothing held back. But what gets really interesting is the array of coverage techniques they ask of him, and his ability to execute all of them like a specialist. I'd say his weakest coverage technique is probably cover two zone, but otherwise he makes coaches proud on pretty much everything. Thrown on 46 times this year and only allowed 17 catches, with a pretty good number of PBUs thrown in there.

Reminds me quite a bit of what I saw out of Kayvon Webster back at South Florida. You just know that if he hasn't quite got the size or length or pure talent to be a starter in the mold of a Brent Grimes (that's quite a line to try and toe), then he's at the very least going to be a standout special teams guy, like Webster.

I’m now working slobber knocker into my daily vernacular thanks to you and Boomer.

After watching up on him I get the hunch this is gonna be one of those picks that two-three years from now we will be applauding the front office for. He’s a fundamentally sound dude and enough of an athlete to compete at whatever he’s asked to do. I like it
