Cortland Finnegan

Take a look for him as a 3rd CB not to start opposite Grimes, I think we reached our quota on injured secondary signings for the yr when we inked Delmas.....can we find someone not coming off an injury to play opposite Grimes?

Here are some points on Finnegan FWIW

* Finnegan's injury was a fractured orbital bone and it was obvious to the Rams he was totally ineffective so he was IR'ed
* It figures that with this injury his play would suffer
* He was due a HUGE roster bonus and it was a no brainer to release him
* His 2012 season was solid
* The confusing Tweet from the St. Louis reporter is about cap relief the team gets if Finnegan gets 3 million…offsets
* Jeff Fisher is quoted as willing to bring Finnegan back at a reduced rate

Do I like Tarell Brown better…YES. However, I am not opposed to investigating this more. It is not like Finnegan's issues are with his legs.

Actually Finnegan has had issues with his legs the past two seasons.
In 2012,
Cornerback Cortland Finnegan missed a third consecutive day of practice Friday because of a thigh injury and was listed as questionable for the Rams’ game Sunday in Tampa Bay.

The thigh injury follows an ankle injury, which forced him to miss two days of practice last week but didn’t prevent him from playing in the 36-22 loss to Minnesota.

in 2013,
Oct. 20 11:33 AM ET - Finnegan is missing his third straight game on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers with a thigh injury.

Hey guys, Rams fan here. I thought I'd stop by to share my thoughts on Finnegan, for whatever that's worth. Finnegan was pretty bad for the Rams and it was clear that he's lost a step. He started out hot in 2012, which makes his overall numbers look decent, but the last half of the year he was tough to watch. Even before his eye injury this past year he was just flat out awful. For a little context, when he was targeted the passer rating against was 136. He was moved nickel and his passer rating against was 132. I remembered reading these numbers in an article written about him last, but those numbers almost don't do his awful play justice.

Actually watching him play he was getting beat almost every play. And we're not talking by Sidney Rice or Dez Bryant, but guys most of us haven't heard of.. I think he'd be decent depth as a 4th CB, but you definitely don't want this guy starting opposite Grimes, or really even at nickel.

It's a shame he didn't work out in St.Louis, because the Rams really could have used a solid corner. A lot of the fans are disappointed that one wasn't picked up in free agency. Even though it's easy to dislike Finnegan if you're playing against him, he's a great teammate and seems like a genuinely decent guy. I hope that he's able to turn it around, but he's on the wrong side of 30 and has an injury history the last few years. He put enough on tape in St. Louis for me to not want him back regardless of price (just my opinion though). And as I saw one poster comment before, the language in his contract will give the Rams up to 3 million in cap space depending on how much he signs for with a new team, which would be quite helpful for the Rams

Thanks for your thought on him.I would just hate to sign the guy here
I think people just fall in love with the name but don't really pay attention on howbad he has played the last few yearsthere are much better options in free agency than him

You need 3 good CB's nowadays, we have one. Jamar Taylor makes me nervous we need someone else in here.

Always been a fan of Finnegan. Not the the most physically gifted, but plays hard and plays with an edge. We could use a player like him on the back end at the right price for sure.

He will not get much of an offer let alone an offer to begin with....not issue looking.

sign him to!! in fact, i read they want to bring him back [at the right price].

he was on his way to a probowl season before the injury. he has REAL game and all he has to do is be on the field.

He led the league in interceptions in just the four games he played, all the way past mid season. He would've been an All-Pro, Patterson was the definition of a play maker in the games he played.

We just dumped one dirty player. Why bring in another one?

He is the CB equivalent of Steve Smith...I like the guy....I would be really surprised if we signed him though. I think the guys we drafted last year will have to sink or swim.

he is one of those player you love to have on your team but hate to play against. He walks the line and for the most part wont step over it but he draws the opponents over the line and gets them to take bad penalties. I wouldn't mind him as the #2 or #3 CB along with Grimes and Taylor.
